Looky what I found
While in Albert lea Mn, me and my great aunt "woody" went to an antique store and found a booth with 2 gas powered model and one tether plane engine. He had the tether plane engine and a tether car engine marked together for $55 but I got him down to $45 because thats all I had and I am on vacation from Denver Colorado. any way here is what I got....
Both are brand new in box
What do you guys think? How much is the testers "pipebomb" with mount, and muffler worth?
Thanks

Re: Looky what I found
Neat find. The Testors Stunt engines usually don't bring too much on Fee Bay. I got a new one a few years ago in a BIN for $15.00 and I think the most I've seen one go for is about $35.00 new in package and the car kits go for about $30.00 so you got a good deal for $45.00. The Testors .049's run great on standard 15% airplane fuel and are super easy to tune. You should build the car, mount that engine on it and have fun!

Re: Looky what I found
The Junior Ace sells for $25. I am not sure about the Testor Engine. I bought one several years ago for $20 NIB, however, it was a little different than that one. Is that one the all plastic version?

yep all plastic
I think I will build the car and mount the testers on it then build the guillows skyhawk that I found in mn and put my 1958 babe bee inside that

Re: Looky what I found
As displayed in the box you are looking at the bottom. The "Testors 8000" was designed for CL flying. You mount it with the cylinder pointing to the outside of the circle. You will be pleasantly surprised at the power this engine has. It should get some rich break-in runs.mitchg95 wrote:

Good luck with it. I have several and like them.

Thanks George
I have started construction of the peewee racer last night, I am in the painting stage but I have ran out of fuel proof paint and the lhs is closed tomorrow so maybe more progress on that build in a couple days. Maybe I will get to breaking in the engine on monday

As the all plastic version of the motor, I believe it has a special place in the history of 1/2a engines. I read a nice article about it on line several years ago. Apparently they were good motors. Congratulations on the find. Pretty neat.

Re: Looky what I found
That engine has gone up a little the last several years, 30-35 plus shipping seems to be the going rate.

Re: Looky what I found
Your tether car looks like a pusher. If so you will need a reverse pitch prop because the Testors will not run backwards. It has a great starter mechanism...turn it one full turn clockwise and release. Since it is self engaging it won't run backwards.mitchg95 wrote:I think so to Mark

Re: Looky what I found
Luckily I purchased about 4 white tornado reverse pitch props for .049's about a year ago just out of impulse, I have had no need what so ever for them until now

Re: Looky what I found
Well I found one of the props mentioned before, I have to search out in my prop stash some more later. This engine has a pretty cool prop that I have never seen before

I believe that is a Testors prop made specifically for the Testors 8000. I have never seen them elsewhere.
BTW I believe the "8000" comes from .8cc = .049 ci.

Pretty cool design for the prop, wonder how common or uncommon they are
