If I set up RTP in the garden, middle of the lawn should do, with 15ft lines.
Convert a cox engine to diesel (the proper way!), install an RC throttle, decent silencer and a nice large sturdy propeller. Sharpened aluminium!
Build a nice symmetrically winged stunt plane with as large a tank as possible and no undercarriage.
Install AS3X and a nice little giro to keep it flying level and steady. Oblivious to the wind!
Wireless output from sensors to count laps, record flying time and warn me when fuel is getting low.
Modify settings so that it can cut the grass once a week.
Then I would win both control line and RC at the same time!
If you do all that then you deserve it.

It's about both really. Fly the same engine for an entire year as much as possible. You the pilot get the experience and the fun out of it.
If we had different pilots flying with the same engine then it wouldn't be fair for someone who can only fly alone.
Thanks that answers my question.

Think I'm gonna campaign "War Dog".
Got a secret and evil game plan for defeating my fellow competitors, but Patrick is FOR SURE gonna have to learn to fly a lot smoother if it is going to work!

If I don't get a new plane ready in time, I'll have to campaign the Epoxy Bomb Cub.
Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
Good choice Kim!
I would suggest folks use an engine they don't mind ruining. Although if you want to run something like a Strato Bug then that would make me smile!
Matt, looks like a good choice to me. I have spare parts to keep your widow going if you need some.

I don't see why not. But you'd need to convert the Surestart to a Killer Bee to carry the weight. Ihat's what my Tach Race engine was. It'll snatch the PT off the ground without rolling. I used to have to whip it to get it in the air with the original engine.WingingIt74 wrote:Wonder if you can convert a PT19 to RC???

It has a refueling probe like the KC-10
Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
Should have the Hobby King Idol all built up by then. Only problem I see is that mid way through the competition, flying conditions will suck due to Canadian winters! We just got another 2 feet of packing snow today!
No matter though, I'll just put snow skis on the landing gear. I'm so pumped for this!

We are all going to have some environmental factors at play. For me it will be wind. Your best bet will be to fly hard from April through September to make up for the off days through the fall and winter.

Put as many engines in the air as possible. If all your boys wanna have a go then that's great!
There is a video on Youtube of a guy flying a RC Spruce Goose that used EIGHT Cox .010 engines.

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
How much of the engine has to be Cox to be a Cox?
Can I get away with the head gaskets?
Prepping me gear for some Cox flying tomorra.

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
cribbs74 wrote:After the slow tach race is done I would like to host a flight contest. I brought this up before, but I wanted to let it settle so I could simplify the rules. They are as follows:
Control Line
Total number of laps in 365 days. Can be any Cox engine from .010 to .15 must be the same engine for the entire duration. Parts can be swapped out to maintain the engine, but the base engine must be the same. If the engine totally grenades we will cross that bridge when it happens.
Radio Control
Same rules as control line except we will keep track of flight time in hours and minutes.
The winner will be the one who logs the most laps or the most flying hours. I need to have those wishing to participate to make it known so I can figure out if this event is even viable.
The event will run from 1 Jun 2013 thru 1 Jun 2014. Laps and minutes will be required to be sent to me at the first of the month Starting 1 Jul 2013. I will record them on a spreadsheet and provide monthly updates here.
This contest will be done on an honor system so let your integrity be your guide. I will try and come up with prizes, but can't promise anything.
Let's get these things flying!

Would it be better to count engine run time rather than laps? Then we could stunt or whatever and have fun with it. Instead of just level flight to get the most laps. I don't want to micro-manage though. Just a thought.

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
Duke,
That's probably a better idea. We have plenty o time to streamline this event.
John, all cox or cox aftermarket. Running a Norvel with cox gaskets is pushing it.
