Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
I like the run time idea. I know how long it flies on a certain amount of fuel.
Has this contest started yet, or are you going to wave a checkered flag?

Event start date is 1 Jun. Or...... As soon as the slow tach race is over. I don't want to overshadow another event.

This will be worse than waiting for a new engine to appear in the mailbox.

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
I spoke with Matt from ExmodelEngines. He agreed to help out with our little endeavor.
So, whoever wins in each class RC/CL will receive a free Taipan Serpent. Seems like a win/win to me, you fly a lot and win an engine.

OK, and how about
How about a prize for the worst crash video of this contest? I ask because if I try this contest most of my flights would be on video and this area is probably where I`d accidentally shine. Maybe a seperate category for those who wish to only do R?C video doccumented flights if there is enough interest. Not that I`d call anybody a liar or anything, but more along thinking if this caegory was highlighted in such a way it may keep the contest having more interest momentum so to speak.(just throwing ideas around mind you.
,contests tend to lose "appetite" sometimes.
If I read all this right, can swap out engine parts as necessary and airframes as long as you run the "contest entry"engine right?
I`m in,I doubt I can whip together a light enough airframe for the R/C TD010 so I`ll either go with R/C TD020 (oh yes thats what I said and meant all you TD020 lovers) on my ugly Bee (with an la stick as backup airframe or r/c TD049 starting out on my frankenstein style modded ace littlest stick airframe seeing as it is unlikely to hold up to contest hours lol
Now if somebody will just remind me when the contest starts I`ll be good to go to get in the mix

Jaspur,
If you crash then you crash. Throw the engine on something else or rebuild whatcha got.
I bet after 365 days you get pretty good at flying. No need to video any of it unless you just want to. It will end up being a ton of video once this thing gets going.
You read correctly about using the same engine. I will be sending out a reminders once the start date draws near.

I learned to always get my flights on video because its always worth sharing and watching myself do a rerun for my own amusement at the least

If I set up RTP in the garden, middle of the lawn should do, with 15ft lines.
Convert a cox engine to diesel (the proper way!), install an RC throttle, decent silencer and a nice large sturdy propeller. Sharpened aluminium!
Build a nice symmetrically winged stunt plane with as large a tank as possible and no undercarriage.
Install AS3X and a nice little giro to keep it flying level and steady. Oblivious to the wind!
Wireless output from sensors to count laps, record flying time and warn me when fuel is getting low.
Modify settings so that it can cut the grass once a week.
Then I would win both control line and RC at the same time!
If you do all that then you deserve it.
I am 25% of the way there now - due to inclement weather I have been setting up indoors. I may win the control line and RC in one fell swoop! Be warned!

Now that was funny. I left the following comment on your Tube channel.
"Ha! That plane at the end was worth watching the whole movie for. Glad you could entertain yourself on a crappy weather day."

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
Ron,
I think this is a good idea and an excellent way of promoting a competition and awareness globally.
I do have a concern about the concept of counting laps for the control line flyers. It is a long, long time since I flew control line but each flight would be one or two laps, followed by stunts and, maybe, one lap at the end after the engine cut out. Flying combat, I wouldn't have a clue how many laps - too busy being trounced by better flyers!
I find it difficult to envision spinning around cranking up laps without it becoming tedious. Maybe I have misunderstood but wouldn't flying time also be a better measurement for the control liners? Would a wing-over count as a lap?
