Re: the bell crank gave way doing a figure 8!
Welcome, Frog. The bellcrank came loose in my Li'l Jumpin bean in the middle of a loop. It crashed through two ribs before it stopped, and the plane dove straight in under full power. It's hanging in my shop with its entrails spilling out of the inboard wing.
I had weakened mine by pulling it free of my stooge with the lines many times. When I built the plane, I hadn't envisioned my stooge method. Since then I have braced the bellcrank mount on subsequent builds... except my Li'l Satan. I may cut it open and have a look. I don't want to bust it up.
Yours looks like a nice plane. Good luck repairing it. I'll probably rebuild my Bean this Winter. It had been punished pretty badly anyway.
Hope you enjoy the forums.

Welcome Frog!
Man...EVERYBODY has been there! My Uncle's almost-new Top Flite Hurricane pulled it's bellcrank mount loose at the bottom of a loop or 8, and dove, full-speed into the turf. Made sort of a "BOOOOOSH" kinda sound !!!
Glad to have you here !

Kim, was that a Sure- Form molded shell Hurricane? I PLOWED!!!! mine in. I didn't actually know that you could re-kit a model that was already built. It was so tail heavy and right before she quit I took it high and the engine quit. Did you ever watch your lines ever literally fall out of the sky? I was running and running and which was pointless as the bird rolled over and came straight down. The bellcrank did come out on that model but I tried like you know what to save it. Ken

Yeah...that's the animal ! I'm not sure what Wayne had in it, but in our case, it was a great and fast flyer. He tended to peak his engines with just a slight break, so they screamed most of the time. He was REALLY proud of it, and I had hold of the handle when it died!
It had just recovered to level flight out of a dive when I felt a jolt, followed by the plane's instant dash into the ground. The bellcrank was wedged into the next outboard rib bay...pulling in full 'down" elevator as it went there !!!!
Sorry for the hijack Frog !
