IT'S AN ACTION FIGURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, so maybe and action figure is just a category of dolls, like GI Joe. But can GI Joe jump out of airplanes like mine? This is what I've been working on lately.

They jump out of RC planes with about an100" wingspan, like a 1/4 scale Cub or Champ. My son has a 1/4 scale Champ framed up and we need to start installing motor and gear soon.Oldenginerod wrote:What are you building for him to jump out of?

His name is el Duque, at our RC club they all have a mexican sounding name. Juan is the first guy at our club to have one, he's been flying them for years at the NATS. And in honor of Juan and lil Juan most get mexican names.

Re: IT'S AN ACTION FIGURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are alot of fun. Their arms move up and down, which controls direction and speed, (right, left, and stop. basicly). They are called 1/4 scale, because they are 18-20" tall and have a servo to deploy the chute. The airplane pilot drops you from the location of your chose (hopefully) and at your requested time. You then free fall a short time and deploy your chute with a switch on your Tx. Rudder usually controls left arm and ailerons the right arm. Then hit the bulleye in the middle of the runway. We have 12-13 of the lil guys at our club now, with 4-5 jump planes.pkrankow wrote:That is AWESOME looking!

Re: IT'S AN ACTION FIGURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting and looks like a lot of fun
I see a LOT of ballast weights...and they seem strategically placed is there some CG or logic at work here that is not obvious to me...I would tink if that much weight was needed perhaps the legs made from Iron pipe may save all the lead every where...just curios not a critical observation
Is there a plan or recipe?
Can we get the chutes?
I have all sorts of RC gear doing nothing and this looks like a cool project

I'll have to try and get an contact for the chutes.
As for the weights and CG, for that chute you need to weight 2 1/2-3 pounds. If I remember right the CG is on the battery. The weight is placed so the jumper releases from the plane and free falls properly.

Re: IT'S AN ACTION FIGURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Makes sense, you desire the guy to fall belly first and horizontal like a skydiver.... cool...anyone try webbing the arms and legs to make the guy glide and dive or other antics....
the ideas are endless as I used to skydive and this sound like a real lot of fun....
Like how close to the ground before opening contest....ha ha ..... in real life I ...OH well never mind, humans bouncing was always tragic....doing it deliberately with a model would probably be just morbid

That's fantastic, it never ceases to amaze me, the sorts of things modelers think up. Please get some cameras pointed at this thing in action.

That video sums it up. We strap the jumper to the bottom though. I missed out on jumping today. Had to work late. I want my son to video and mount a camera to el Duque. My son flies fpv too, so we plan to fpv the jumper too.

Let me asure you, Sherif Woody was not harmed in anyway in the making of this Jumper. But some of the guys do get their head, hands, and boots for other toys, we might have a Buzz Lightyear. I thought about a skydiving Santa or Elvis.

I showed this to my multi-hobbied flying buddy, only to find out... again... that he's done this. Had one named Charley and dropped him at targets.
