Hey all, I've been wanting to build or get a 1/2a rc plane for a while. I have been looking at the Black Hawk models pippin, the sig rascal and the norvel tutor, which one of these is the easiest to build? do you guys know of any other good ones? I'm looking for one that is easy to build and relatively cheap. Thanks.

Okay, does it come precovered? i have seen reviews where it does and then other places where it isn't, what website can I get the pre covered one off of? it says the ideal power is the norvel .060 can i use my .049 too? Thanks.

Are you looking for a kit or an ARF and is this your first R/C plane? Do you already fly R/C?

Knowing the answers will help the folks on the forum better answer your questions and provide suggestions for models.

Yes, sorry about that. I am looking for an arf that can be powered by an 049, I fly R/C and i am very experienced in the hobby.

That is a very nice model, do you have to cut the wood yourself? if so how do you do that?

Yes, you have to cut! but, it´s very easy, just glue the plans tempates to the wood, with stick glue, (just a litle), and cut with a X-acto, you can cut all the material in 1 hr.

Over here we've got cracking kits that click together like jigsaws with a bit of cyano

15 mins below



I'm not very good with wood at all but managed to put together this baby's little bro in 2 evenings.
Another plus is it bounces really well too.

I live in Alberta, I would get a kit but I don't think I would do a good covering job. I really like the one colibriguitars made.

Covering with Ultracote or Monokote is easier than it looks. I did it the first time without practice on my Li'l Jumpin Bean and it came out almost perfect. And I'm a fair klutz. Watch a couple of Youtube tutorials.

If you paint it instead of coveing it you will add alot of unneeded weight to the airplane.

I can only find the sig rascal 1/2a as a kitwould this be easy to build for me? I have built one guillows model so I guess you could say i have some experience.

Okay, my final decision is between colibriguitars plane and the sig rascal. Colibri's plane looks easier to build and I already have an engine for it, but the rascal is very nice also, where could I buy a norvel .060 for that?

Yes and I doubt this plane will weigh much more then 10-13oz RTF and with a norvel 061 that will pretty much 3D!

No, is scratch build, this plane was designed in Spain in early 80´s, !
