Cox Engine of The Month
Boxes for "the English market"

Boxes for "the English market"
I have seen about 10 of these in recent year for pee wees and babe beez.
I have always wondered about them but usually dismiss them as fakes.
What do you reckon is behind them?
Maybe certain shops selling engines in them to increase value or something.

Re: Boxes for "the English market"
Well we know Tri-ang had a cox tie up in the 60's perhaps they had them boxed.
I sent Ron a Texaco back plate that came in a Ripmax package.
I think the last few years Cox gear was sold here in Ripmax packs.
Stands to reason the local boys would want to add their name
to a successful brand.

Re: Boxes for "the English market"
I wouldn't think they are fake by the look of them.
It says Cox right on the box, so it's not re-packaged either, My guess is you guys had to have pretty artwork that appealed to the British palate. You guys are just toooo sophisticated for "Yank" boxed engines.........
Your guess is as good as mine Indra, maybe you could ask one of your older modelling pals if he remembers seeing those boxes in the storefront as a kid.

John is the oldest modelling pal in the UK and he is only 47
Re: Boxes for "the English market"
Just spotted this . Different color (er, colour) box than OP, old Euro price tag, Brit spelling on box and instructions.
Guess someone who already has one of every Cox engine could start collecting these...

Re: Boxes for "the English market"
I see these boxed Cox Engines all the time coming from UK sellers.
Here's a Babe Bee too.

I would like to get my hands on one of these someday, they are real.

Suggesting we had or have Euro's over here is likely to get you lynched in some quarters here.

OK, that explains it. I imagined this story where it was a British market engine, sold somewhere on the Continent and then smuggled back through the Chunnel...

Wrong! I qualify as the oldest! and, to answer the question, I remember seeing these boxes in model shops, yes, they're genuine.

1971, I was running a model shop at that time, and we had to change all prices in the shop overnight! We had fun with things like strip balsa at 11/2d each, no decimal equivalent, so we had to price them at 1p, which was a fair price increase (2d) other things we down priced to balance out.

So they are genuine, you ran a model shop? Do remember who the distributor was?
I think it was Keil Kraft as they did a cox variant.
But then it could have been Irvine.
