With trembling hands I begin on the Cox Ryan ST
To the uninitiated, anyone that doesn't share affection for these little Cox gems. If it seems I am making more of this than what I should, it's because I am.
Everything is castor locked and by carefully applying heat to the needle and the case screws all removed without grief but not without significant resistance. In the past I have left the tip of the needle (twisted off) in the NVA and damaged the case screw heads all because of lack of heat.
Being very careful I twisted off the purpose built backplate/mount sticky with castor. You just can't heat up plastic. Then using a heat gun loosened up the locked engine and made a decision not to disassemble it. Berrymans's dip and that's it. I'm even leaving in place the very disliked spring starter. But, If I could find one of those circular spring throttle sleeves............
The little guys do not want to leave the cockpits. A combination of castor lock and construction techniques. Having a difficult time convincing them. Letting them sit in a puddle of RemOil for a while might change their minds. Same for the windshield. I need it to make a mold for the missing one.
Baby steps with this one and I know I'm going to bust that windshield.

Those do seem to command high prices nowadays, because they are considered collectables. Bob has expressed his joy in restoring these by purchasing at lesser cost, candidates needing further work.
Interestingly enough, coinciding with Bob's .020 RTF restoration efforts, Outerzone recently published a slick looking 1/4-A C/L plan:
https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=14527 15in span Stunt Chum C/L by Frank Ehling, November 1951 Air Trails
It would be very suitable for a Cox Pee Wee.

With a day left and 7 bids at $127.50, it could exceed $200.00 by end.

Read carefully ;
" ... the wing may be glued on I haven’t tried to remove it."
_______________
The attachments for the elastic to the fuselage are broken according to the pictures. Probably the reason for gluing the wings?

I have been high bidder on that auction for a couple of days now.
I was hoping to keep it a secret. Cover blown.

It's a big world out there. I haven't been in the market since I bought the RX-7 so I missed it. I was looking for Cox Ryan ST decals when I came across it. Looking forward to that wing. If I lose it, so be it. If there is one thing I have learned in this hobby it's that another one will always come along.
Squeezed this in between RX-7 adventures.

Re: With trembling hands I begin on the Cox Ryan ST
Thanks, especially in support of Ukraine.
I probably would not of bid were it not for the throttled version. I'm just curious to see how that works having never ran the throttled version of any Cox erngine. I'm amazed at how members here get such remarkable results out of theirs.
I can't find the picture that I saw of the olive drab Army edition. Thought I saved it but must have not. Might have been on a plastic kit. Many silver and blue versions though, Army and Navy.
Like this picture.
