Cox Engine of The Month
Cox Ryan ST

Cox Ryan ST
I acquired a Cox spitfire and a Wen-Mac Dauntless over the winter and along with the deal came a Ryan fuselage with the engine. I have cleaned up the other two models and just looked at the fuselage. It's in pretty good shape, with both pilots intact. engine is stuck but that shouldn't be an issue. I am wondering how hard it would be to find the wings and tail surfaces? I have the paper work for it also so need to inventory what is NOT there, but if I could find the wing and tail surfaces I think I would keep this little booger!!

Re: Cox Ryan ST
Mr. Dan,
I've only seen pictures...but this is the first green one. Does the engine have the throttle ring on it?
I think the 3-line bellcrank snaps on a bellcrank post on the wing. ISTR the instructions that came with my bellcrank/handle showed it.
Oh, and I checked eBay for your missing parts. This could be a long-standing search. Good luck!

Re: Cox Ryan ST
Thanks for the feedback Jim. I know it may be a long shot but if I can't find what I need, maybe someone will need this really bad and make me a rich man!! I have a NIB PeeWee .020 with throttle that I could rob the parts from, or maybe even have a loose used one, I would have to check. I'm a big fan of the Ryan ST and other variations and would like to put this one back together. Between the CEF and the FB 1.A group that will have a lot of eyes looking.
I got the three line handle coming from Dalton also!

Good Morning!
I got a Cox three line handle from him, but I don't know if he has more than the one. I'll message you his email address and you can drop him a line. He had some other stuff listed on Stunthanger forums classifieds but if you are not a member I don't know if you can see the listings.

Re: Cox Ryan ST
Thanks Jim and Kim. Those links fill in some blanks, especially on how to make the adjustment for the throttle with the Cox handle. The Wen-Mac throttle was more simple I think. It just had a line running from the lever on the throttle sleeve and you held the third line in your hand. When I get around to trying it, I think I'll put a spring on the throttle link on the handle and tie the line to the other end with some way to take up the slack. Been pretty busy with other stuff and got side tracked. Still hoping to find a wing and tail feathers for the Ryan. I'll worry about a throttle later. I would be happy to just make it a hanger queen right now.
And I have always been a big fan of Dave Thornburg. I got THE last copy of his book, "Do You Speak Model Airplane" and had him autograph it as such. I have the plans for the free flight Ryan also. I hope to get to it soon. So many projects for retirement!!
