Don't know when I have ever built a model without music of some sort playing and her album just happened to be on the spindle.
I started cutting out balsa for my Cox Black Widow model reproduction with thanks to wingingit and ab.
I decided against using my NIB black plastic Jim Walker fuselage opting for SIG 1/8" balsa instead. For the wing I substituted SIG airfoil with an added 1/2" trailing strip to make up the originals 3 1/4" chord. I still have to cut the scallops which will be a challenge as they are in descending shapes beginning from the wing tips. I don't have enough coffee cans of various sizes to do the job. Might try to blow-up ab's wing picture to get the shapes, but my printers software is not that friendly.
It's a start.

Nothing personal, but from the perspective it looks too tall
rsv1cox: what is the height of the frame at the canopy? From the perspective shown it looks like maybe 4inches. But I think the 1/8inch balsa you are using is only 4inches wide, so it would be maybe 2 1/2inches height. The camera angle is deceiving.rsv1cox wrote:Rather that step all over wingingit and a betencourts thread............

I haven’t had time yet to draw yet, wifeys birthday is over, but don’t tell her.
Maybe tonight or tomorrow. Some one is visiting parents near by and might call tomorrow.
I work mostly at night when wifey is asleep. I concentrate on the garage cleaning as much as possible during the day, but the heat almost took me out yesterday. I drank 2 - 1liter bottles of cold water, but was stumbling around almost incoherently, so I went indoors and collapsed on my recliner, bad back, and fell asleep for an hour or so. Then had dinner and worked on a new digital multimeter with backlight that didn’t work. The stupid seller didn’t understand the 2 pictures of a floating number on screen with leads shorted on ohms scale and same screen measuring a 1.5volt DC battery. The item was dead. So after filing with eBay a “not-working or not as described” report I finally couldn’t stand it. I knew what ebay would say, “please return to sender, seller”, BUT THEY ARE IN in china. We cannot ship to China. I broke, I opened the bleep unit and fixed it my self. 2 of the tiny gold plated strips used on the selector switch had fallen off, NOT ENOUGH GLUE on the tips, and the computer chip didn’t get all the info needed to process the inputs from the leads properly.
Geez, sorry to hijack. Lately stuff just flows out.

Hijacks welcomed here HD.
Some say to many cooks spoil the broth, I say they add to the flavor.
Hijack on. Hint though, I always delete repetitive pictures when quoting.
Heat used to get to me in Florida too, not so much here in WV. Gatoraide to the rescue.
Just for fun I weighed the plastic bodied Jim Walker against this balsa repro. 4.40 vs. 3.87
Weighs less even with the Black Widow rather than the Babe Bee. Even less after I remove all that junk on the front of the BW.
Still, final sanding, sanding sealer and paint to go.

The fuselage reminds me of the old TD-4

rsv1cox: seeing the jimmy walker fuselage reminds me of my first Cox plane, the TD-4. The fuselage was plastic and the engine mount tilted. Does yours tilt up and down or are my eyes deceiving me?
And viva la Gatorade. When my youngest daughter was born she was jaundice, yellow, and she couldn’t eat regular milk and she wasn’t eating the normal way, so green Gatorade for six weeks. This was before Similac and other non-milk substitutes. She was normal after that until 24 when she found out she had food allergies, celiac disease, and is now very careful about what she eats. Great cook and baker though.
You are doing a great job, sand on.

Re: Cox Black Widow airplane and Dolly Parton
Yeah, when I first saw that picture I thought something doesn't look right. Would be really bad if it wasn't an optical illusion. Offset would bring it right into the center of the circle.
I can sympathize, they fed me goats milk the first year of my life (1937/38). I couldn't tolerate anything else. Didn't last, today I consume a gallon of milk a week. Got to have something to wash the chocolate down.
First coat of Min Wax sanding sealer. Comes out rough, next three coats much smoother. Then gloss black and white. Conflicted about the decals. I can't size using my computer to printer. Had to take a screen photo detailing nine inches to do the wing but it distorts. Compensated when I cut out the scallops but won't do when I need to copy the decals then transfer to decal paper.

Re: Cox Black Widow airplane and Dolly Parton
Almost ready for prime time.
Roy Orbison wasn't doing it for me so I went back to an old favorite of mine while building model airplanes.
Many would not approve....but
the only thing I don't like worse than stitched hinges (can't do them) is cloth hinges.
Necessary on 1/16" balsa.
Notice how the horizontal stab digs in the leading edge when compared to the plain of the wing. Not normal but it's how the original Jim Walker Firebaby is designed so I built it in. About a negative 5 degrees.

Ah, Mireille Mathieu... She is one of my favorite. Immaculate voice, what a beautifulness.
If you send the full scan of wing, I can redraw decals and send to you laser printed decals on vinyl. If you want, send your address with pm.

PM sent.
Painted today. Top Flight Lustrekote both black and white. Nothing glued yet.
I managed to find an original set of JW wheels on ebay so I won't have to fabricate my own. Epoxy on the firewall and two top wing keepers, attach wheels and Black Widow engine, install controls, wait for Levent's decals and clear coat and we are ready to go.
Didn't turn out wonderful, old age (let you know when I get there) may suggest wisdom but there is no substitute for young steady hands and keen eyesight. Mistakes I wouldn't tolerate years ago, I accept now.
PS: I didn't scallop the leading edge of the horizontal stab. as on the original Cox BW. Didn't like it.

Thanks George,
Wary of nose heaviness with a Black Widow sticking out there, may have to fly it with a Babe Bee. Thinking about doing another, simple just three sheets of balsa but this time with a SIG 4" airfoil wing. I had to add a section on the trailing edge to fill out their 3" wing. Would like to relieve the cockpit area too, but difficult with balsa.

Not much going on in the landscaping department Levent. Drilled a hole and planted a fake plastic tree (foreground) and that's it. Too much fun rebuilding trashed locomotives and running them. More complex than even the most complicated model engine, electromechanical, valve gear, etc.

It's all in the presentation guys.
Love it OhBee. Beautiful bike and one I could ride and still have my feet flat on the ground. My Honda S-90 doesn't allow that.
