Maybe the one and only Silver Bullet black widow prototype?

Or did we debunk that myth?

I can't say yes or no to the Silver Bullet Widow. I imagine Cox made some very special one-off engines from time to time, could have been the prototype for the Black Widow... who knows... I wasn't there.

No 8cc tank. I'd say it's a plain old Bee. It looks like the box has no film on the top, so the engine could have been swapped...

Wish I could trace that bat wing out and reproduce it in balsa. I could knock the whole thing out for $15 to include an actual BW. Decals I can do also.

what, you never heard of approximation? build your own? scratch build? is this getting your creative juices flowing? i read the critical parameters like winspan and fuselage length and guestimate the sizes of the elevator stab, elevator moveable area, rudder fixed and rudder moveable areas and draw. the scallops or whatever you call the batwing stuff you can make with the appropriate size circle maker, or a quarter or a silver dollar, etc. whatever works.

btw i have been meaning to ask. how is it you get to stay in hotels? when i was temporary duty, TDY, i had to stay in open bay quarters with 50 other guys. even as an NCO E4/E5. different time, different place i guess.
p.s make something up. it will fly. also copy the pics to your home computer and print them 8 1/2 x 11inch.

No, I am not a General. I do tell folks at billeting that I am when I check in. Usually get a few laughs when I hand them my ID card. Sometimes just being nice nets me a good room.

I am also known as Les Generale amongst my coworkers. lol!

Base billeting has come a long way during the last 18yrs. I have stayed in my share of bays and communal bathrooms when I was younger. In my line of work you are not judged by what's on your lapel or sleeve, it's how well you do your job. One day I may be sweeping a floor and the next I am briefing the base commander on how I fixed his airfield. That suits me just fine.

EXTREMELY RARE COX THIMBLE DROME PROTOTYPE "BLACK WIDOW" GAS MODEL AIRPLANE Empty Re: EXTREMELY RARE COX THIMBLE DROME PROTOTYPE "BLACK WIDOW" GAS MODEL AIRPLANE

Post  a betancourt Wed Jul 29, 2020 9:24 am

This airplane was sold by Lodela Cox, Lodela was a Mexican manufacturar who got the license of Cox RTF airplanes. The "Viuda Negra" used the Cox Firebaby fuselage and balsa wings and stab just like the Firebaby. The engine that came with the plane was an standard Baby Bee.

I will post photos of a "Viuda Negra" that I just bought.

This plane brings a lot of memories, in 1977 Santa Clause brought me a Cox Firebaby, it was the best flying Cox airplane that I ever had and at that time I remember seeing the "Viuda Negra" at department stores.

I have been looking for a Cox Firebaby and Viuda Negra for a long time and I have just been able to find the Viuda Negra, it should arrive in a couple of days.

May be the term black widow comes from the styling of the aircraft with spiders displayed, the ghoulish Halloween styled (el día del muerte - the day of the dead) airframe.

Is that a Red Widow, or maybe a Bed Bug.....

No matter, I love it and would scoop it up if given the chance.

I was in Mexico in 1954, wonder what's it's vintage. Definitely post Space Bug Jr's.

Beautiful and looks as good as the black widow above, I just hope you did not pay nearly as much as they sold the black widow for back in 2012. Way, way too much.

Enjoy. Happydad RC Plane   United States     Old Bugger and welcome to CEF. I Love This Forum!

Nice, it definitely has the outlines of a trainer, it proportions sort of remind me of Walt Musciano's Scientific profile American Boy kit plane. May be one of these days there will be a contest to judge the best looking retro makes of Cox RTF's.

As Ron suggested, if you could template patterns of the outlines of parts to scale or even straight aligned photos that could be scaled, so it could be recreated, would allow others to make a replica model of it. This would help to preserve this rare specimen.
