Roll Call! Cars Are The Stars
Ok guys,
We are getting close to the date (1 June) for CATS
I would like to do another roll call to see if the participation is at the same level as when we started. I have Bernie and Matt on hold for prizes. If we have enough contestants then I will give them a shout. It’s not too late to get in on the action!
Show your support and keep our forum active and exciting!
Please respond if you plan to compete and what category or categories you wish to compete in.
The rules can be found here if you are new to the party.

I'm in. I believe I would be in the open class, home built from sort of plans, rear prop driven. Thank you.

Re: Roll Call! Cars Are The Stars
My buddy Dennis made this car from aluminum tubing powered it with a OS Max.15. I had a brake rotor in the bed of my truck so they made a spindle and bearing assembly for it. Well, it wasn't heavy enough and it's pretty comical as it drags the rotor around. One of the guys did the smart thing and stuck his foot out to try and stop it which cut him pretty good. https://www.facebook.com/PhillyFliersCL/videos/vb.513140418756097/365721404074226/?type=2&theater

Re: Roll Call! Cars Are The Stars
Excellent video. That is a cool car and runs very well.
Yes i can see a problem stopping that.
After having to stop one myself by standing on the line I now have a large towel or blanket handy to throw over the car should the need arise.
Bob, don't pull out. Your restorations and builds are beautiful.

Thanks, but time has just ran out on me. Vacations, catching up with Spring. Got a choice, help my son tomorrow with some carpentry or try to get the old #2 Cox Mercedes running which really doesn't fit the criteria for this event.
I will watch with envy from the bleachers.

Well I was under the impression that the competition wasn't focussed solely on running a car, but included and Cox built or powered vehicle. We've seen lots of pictures of cars that clearly aren't going to run. Bob, you have all those beautiful Mercedes you've worked so hard on getting restored. Pick your best and offer it up as a static entry.

Sorry that you won't be running the W-196 car Robert. Who knows..... if this contest goes well enough.. there might be a "Fall Face-Off".. between all of the Spring-2019 entries.. PLUS anyone who couldn't be ready for the Spring-2019 event.
Re: Roll Call! Cars Are The Stars
I was right. Here are the rules. Rule #4, "SHOW" category. Perfect for a Mercedes.

Bob,
As much as I wanted to see the Mercedes doing some fine laps I think you could at least snap a picture of one of your bakers dozen.

Enter the Mercedes anyway, make the judges work harder!
Plus if ya really want to talk Not Ready, mine doesn't even have an engine or fuel tank.
I hope the weather is decent enough to grab some videos

Ok, you shamed me into it, but I'm coming in through the back door considering the effort that others have put into this.
Fortunately my son called and said he couldn't do the carpentry thing today so I'm free to tinker.
I think the Pinto Funny Car would be more straight line fun than the tethered round and round Mercedes, but this particular Mercedes has bugged me since I first got it. It's the first one I bought and by far the worst one but with Jason's help (Pinto too) I got it repaired. 15, yes fifteen Cox Mercedes followed, all superior to this one.
I'll stick a runner Babe Bee in there and reassemble and give it a shot. Maybe I can get my son over tomorrow to do a video and post a build log. I would like to see one of these run too.
Two hours later - Edit add:
Brought the thing out to the garage with a couple of randomly picked engines.
Picked one and checked glow plug. No glow. Removed the plug from the defective Mercedes engine and tightened it down. Checked the case machine screws, tight. Mounted it, fueled it with 35% Cox fuel, attached the fire, primed and flipped.
Loud pop, backfire and the propeller and spinner spun off. Didn't check that.
Second flip and it just took off, leaned it out nicely and it ran like a champ. Good, a known good engine.
Started to replace the rear wheel which I thought was spinning on the hex shaft but found that the tire was spinning on the wheel instead. A little CA fixed that saving me from replacing the rear wheel. Think lots of "E" clips to accomplish that.
It's a ready Freddie, hopefully, maybe, fingers crossed that will run. I will enter it and post an abbreviated build log tomorrow.
----------------------------------------------------
BTW - Rod I don't see that #4 "Show" category unless it was added:
Below the rules as discussed between Mark and Lieven:
1) vehicle driving on land and gas powered by a Cox engine (from .010 TD to .15 Conquest)
2) Propeller driven or axle driven
3) 3 categories:
Stock - Cox production cars w/accessories i.e. Cox gas powered car track, fuel cans, packaging etc.
Modified - Cox production cars with customized body/engine. with Cox engine power.
Open class - home built, scratch built, other makes than Cox with Cox engine power.
4) One entry and category submitted per contestant. All categories are show or run. One winner per category by voting.
5) I set a delay at 6 months. That means that entries will be posted on a thread opened on let's say 1 June 2019.
6) Each entry consists of 2 pictures: 1 of the car and 1 of the chassis and engine. For prop driven cars, where the engine is in most cases exposed, the second picture can be a different angle or detail. A video with the car running is a bonus. A back story about the car, owner and where the picture was taken can be added.
There could be a building or restoration thread during wintertime.
------------------------------------
Guess mine would fit between Stock and modified (different engine and suspension) so probably best in modified?
And, yup.......I understand that it doesn't have to be a runner...I just like motion.
