And, strangely for Drones, glow ignition, I thought all Drones were diesel, you learn a little something every day!!
AFAIK they were all diesels. Might these be after-market conversion heads?
The glow plug in the one on the right is a Champion. Not sure about the left one...Arden perhaps?

That ignition drone is not ignition I think it jut has a spark plug or odd glowplug in it.
The plug on the left, I dunno what it is but I have a few.

Re: Ugliest Model Engines?
Champion, in the early days made glowplugs. I've also seen the plug on the left, but can't think of it?
Re: Ugliest Model Engines?
Here are some Champion short plugs. I flew mostly .15 and smaller engines in those days.
If I remember correctly, the reason Champion stopped making glow plugs was that it cost more to make a glow plug than a spark plug for an automobile. Note that they had an idle bar of sorts.
BTW, these are still good.

Another pic so you can see the label. The shorts were VG-3. They came in little cardboard boxes like sparkplugs did in those days:

What is the nut under the jena's Venturi for?
Probably like the bolt in Frankenstein's monster's neck, one day he unscrewed it........and the back of his head fell off!

I like that Jena 1cc. It looks like a Gatling gun modded into a rocket launcher. Or some kind of antique military weapon... the size of a Deringer. Ha! a pocket rocket.

Re: Ugliest Model Engines?
I love my Philtech RC diesel, if anything they are more beautiful then other engines to me.
The muffler is a very nice design and rotatable in the attachment to the engine (held by a flange).

I think the Philtech is absolutely gorgeous also, Still came as a aesthetic surprise to me with the E-pipe
