Cox Engine of The Month

L19 Bird Dog put together -boring but educational
Complicated reed system.
#20 casting. Other Aurora .049 engine was 21
Cox gaskets are not a good fit, including the head gasket. But the Cox take-down tools do work.
Back plate is missing the vent/fuel tubes. Took a lot of work to clean it up. Fuel nipple was plugged with castor. Going to drill it out and insert brass tubing. Used a spare back plate, but the plastic is crazed and may leak.
A pain to put together. Simple for those with three hands. Engine attaches as a module.
Finished. Cowling is loose because fuselage tabs are broken off. Flyable without it.
Damaged box turned out well. Thankfully I got to it before some idiot did with tape.
I hate tape. It's so simple to repair boxes without it.

Now I need to pull my partially finished Scientific Bird Dog out and finish it. It has a plastic cowl too, and would look neat next to a more detailed plastic kit just for the sake of seeing two ways of skinning the same cat.

An oldie. I have no idea what I was trying to say in this thread. Normal for me.
Aurora Bird dogs are kind of rare in control line. Actually anything in Aurora control line is rare and expensive. I found another one, but can't find it. I built a Hollow log Bird dog as a kid, but crashed it.
Cylinder index: idk what that is. I always thought it to be how many engines you own. I left it blank.
Status: idk what I'm doing. Welcome to the club. But, stick around here a few years and you will be a C/L expert.

A little bit of time, patience, and practice is how you will learn to build something. As was mentioned to you earlier, a simple profile plane is a great start. Here is one that is cut out of coroplast, election sign material. Slow flying, indestructible, and a quick and easy build. Great first plane for control line. Worst you will do is break a propeller, and have to bend the engine mount back into place! Designed by a local modeller here.

Grab a Cox engine, attach it and have at it. You won't be disappointed in the fun you will have.
