Which Tach?

Re: Which Tach?
I tried the iPhone app, I think it's a believable number. The 051 came out with a 17,4XX. The numbers changed to fast to get a good reading and it doesn't save the highest reading.
Re: Which Tach?
I think you might be surprised by the iphone..
I've got the windmeter app which I thought
"that can't possibly be accurate"..
Hello
It seems to be just as accurate as a £300 device.
As for 'real' tachs I use a Turnigy V V cheap on the bay or Hobby King
up to 9 (ho ho) blade props.
BUT
The power button is proud of the casing so batteries do go down
with monotomous regularity cos it gets put away 'on'.

At $25 I don't believe you'll find a better tach than the Hobbico Digital Mini-Tach.
Tower Hobbies PT# HCAP0401
(Mine fits perfectly into a zippered case for an old Norelco electric shaver)

A couple, but it seems that it be a rather easy function to add.

Edit: These folks make it now. Don't know which shops sell it, but it is an excellent tach:

I put that link up on page 1 George, It's made by Fromeco, MADE IN THE USA, in a little town called Sandy, Oregon not to far from here. They used to be $120. If you click on the "find out more" tab,,then click on specifications, it's shows the 4 blade capability.

They are running an ebay sale, so it was a good price. Besides, I can use it for other things besides props.

I have the older version that I got directly from Tony when he had his company in Woodstock, NY, about 10 miles from me. Tony used to make a couple of types, one for turbines, one for props. Mine is for props and has a 10x multiplier on it for checking idle speed. Tony was by trade an electrical engineer for IBM. I met him during that time when he joined our local RC club. During his last years Tony didn't fly much because of his decreasing eyesight. Years ago there was a profile of him on the net...probably still there somewhere. Good man.

Curious how it worked out. From looking at that and other auctions for same device, it appears you have to attach a piece of sticky reflective tape to the prop?

Re: Which Tach?
I picked up a similar lazer tach off of amazon for about $10 shipped, came with a zipper case, batts and a lenght of tape. I used a white junkyard paint pen and marked the backside of 1 blade, of a two blade prop for the reading. Never did use the tape as the adhesive didnt stick very well.
The tach on the other hand is accurate, and is not affected by the fluro bulbs in the shop.
