Cox Engine of The Month
Number stamped on TD lugs

Number stamped on TD lugs
I have a Tee Dee .051 and the left lug has a "2" stamped on it. It has a screened venturi, and single exhaust port. Can anyone tell me the significance of "2" or will it be forever a mystery known only to God?

There was a change to the engine along the way

I ran into this when I bought a lot of parts. Most of the engines were taken apart and I put a TD .051 together but couldn't turn it after it was together. Old crankcase with new thick web crankshaft. Had to swap parts around to get it to work.

Re: Number stamped on TD lugs
Mine turns over with great compression and pop. I just am curious what that 2 meant. I am not sure, but I think I understand that I don't know for sureJason_WI wrote:I ran into this when I bought a lot of parts. Thanks Jason

Re: Number stamped on TD lugs
Where do you see in the documents the year of manufacture? I typically look at ther Litho....note in the footer of the Operation Manual where a year is mentioned that gives me a hint of what the earliest possible year of the manufacture may be...

Re: Number stamped on TD lugs
The paper instruction sheet and a Special Notice insert regarding the high compression glow head were both dated 1/74. Many of the Cox engines sold in the boxes were attached by a wire tie to a card insert. They usually stamped the manufacture date on the back of those card inserts. No markings regarding date were made to the engines themselves that I know of.

Re: Number stamped on TD lugs
I saw those dates stamped on some of the cardboard sheets of paper boxed engines but the chrystal boxed ones only had the dates on the instruction sheets as said. Assuming COX did not inventory instruction sheets and engines for years where sheets and engines of different printing and production years could have been paired, the printed Litho...years may be the only guidance as to the vintage year.
