I bet that Jim and Kari will get a kick out of it too.
Good one Fortunately ours are quite not that big and the sting is less dangerous too. Wouldn’t mind the noise though
Today it was cold but sunny, just had to sneak out of the ”office” with the girls to catch the last rays at around 4pm.

Re: How's the weather?
Got an ice storm in progress here on the hill, and may get fairly tired of my canned chili and Banquet Pot Pies before the vehicles get thawed out.
Good news is that the power is still on, though the little generators are staged up in case a falling tree turns out the lights.

We get dark eyed juncos migrating through here
twice a year, for a week or two at time. One of my
faves. Thanks for that, Kim.

Re: How's the weather?
Juncos are prevalent here throughout the year, but mainly in the Winter and Spring. Little gray and white puff-balls when the temperature is cold. Unfortunately, I have not seen many this year, my fault, I took down the bird feeder which attracted them. My bad, I got tired being bested by the bear that kept knocking it down.
But, I see purple finches through my kitchen window nesting each year in the tall spruce by the garage. They have been doing so for at least the last four years. They get in through an opening in the back next to the garage. May be the same pair. I saw them again checking it out just a couple of weeks ago.
Got another two inches of the white stuff last night, more to come. They are talking freezing rain and wind, power outages for sure here in WV.

Re: How's the weather?
I have been living in Oklahoma for the past 9 yrs and this is the first time we have had weather that feels like what I experienced growing up in Ontario Canada. We have a low of -5 tonight and -9 tomorrow night. Pipes are frozen in the master bathroom as my wife forgot to leave the faucet dripping. I can’t keep the animals water thawed very long for the goats, chickens and quail. Fun stuff!
I imagine a few members within my radius are experiencing the same. Global warming my foot!

Re: How's the weather?
Thought of you when watching the weather on TV yesterday, Oklahoma getting the brunt of it.
Surprisingly we did not lose power any of the past five days of this stuff. More predicted next week when on Wednesday I'm scheduled for my second covid shot in Moorefield WV up in the mountains, might have to reschedule that one.

Re: How's the weather?
That makes sense for Minnesota! Normally we get into the teens a couple days a year, but never minus temps.

We always have a week or so of below zero temps in January or February. Other than the cold temperature, we haven't had much for more snow or any storm conditions lately.

Do you mean "it's raining mud", or "It's raining, that will cause mud"?
It's not unusual for it to rain mud around here. During droughts it's common for huge dust storms to be whipped up by a Summer cold front coming through the dry west and north of our state. The dust gets sucked up into the clouds that develop with the cool change and as the front moves over the top of us it dumps rain containing fine red dust, which is now mud. Literally raining mud.

Re: How's the weather?
Minus 3F this morning against a normal of 63F and last week 75~78F days
Ice then Snow then melt and refreeze then 5 inches of snow yesterday on top of the Ice..
Texas Grid under siege and State wide rolling Blackouts
Our own local county has NOT had Rolling Blackouts...we had 4 multi hour outages the last 2 days...most recent 8 hrs 3:21 AM until power ON at 11:12 this AM monday 15th
My house way too big for the one fireplace ...this house real efficient to cool in Texas summer...but electric heating is central air out of ceiling ducts......interior temp was down to 54F before Electricity got restored
been here since 94...most power outages are trees and squirrel caused.....always restored un under 4 hours...may need to rethink my needs for generator and big ugly propane tank
I have lived in northern cold..tis why we retired here to Central (hot) Texas.....I have BBQed in Dec most years
Joliet Ill, Fridley Minnesota, Ft Greely Alaska, Grafenwoehr Germany field exercises in the winter, Ft Drum NY, Ft Lewis and Yakima Washington....when deep cold is a multi month annual event most homes and autos are prepared for it.
I have two cars not started in 3 days.....wish I had ordered block heaters when new...grrrrr

Re: How's the weather?
Fred, if your batteries are good and you have synthetic oil, the cars should be just fine. It’s not exactly good for them to get cranked in that kind of weather but it won’t kill them either. Just drive them long enough to reach normal temp to get rid of water in oil and to charge the battery. And don’t let them sit on idle for too long, not good for the car or environment. Go ahead and drive, just take it easy on the power steering and tranny for the first mile or two. That is, don’t turn the wheel all the way to lock when backing out of your driveway, take your time to shift from reverse to D and so on.
My late Saab had its block heater broken for a few years, usually would start in -20F just fine. Slow cranking but that was because of the 10 year old battery. It ran just fine way past the 200k mile mark, with the original turbo and timing chain, until I had to let it go due to subframe rust. Broke my son’s heart

Re: How's the weather?
Ah Freddy, into each life a little rain (also snow and sleet) must fall.
Actually not to bad here in WV, knocking on wood and I'm certainly not bragging. We have avoided most of it and kept the electric on. Much of the bad weather has been to the South of us. I have seen 12 degrees and snow in Jacksonville Florida.
You will be back to normal soon and we will still be shivering through March.
