Re: How's the weather?
Dang man, I don’t think we ever had temps like that in Ontario. It got plenty cold, I was at the edge of frostbite many times as a kid, never paid attention to the weather as a kid.
That global warming sure seems silly to you right now.

Re: How's the weather?
Ok, maybe I'm just dumb but what's this "Feels Like" thing all about?
I mean, I know nothing about Oakbank, but that's a huge difference. Out here the weather girl might say it's 24º C but it feels like 25º C.
What? Who's gonna pick 1 degree difference? So, in who's opinion does it "feel like"? It's what it actually is that really matters, right? I don't get it

Re: How's the weather?
News-flash; The "beer-delivery" has been suspended across the Northern U.S. (WI and MN states in particular..) because of the beer "freezing" in the trailer-trucks during transit.
The "feels-like" temperature is the wind-chill.. It bites at you.. when you're out in it. Any exposed-skin can be frost-bitten in a matter of minutes if not protected.

Wel Rod, the windchill is just that. As is in the part you copied from my post. The ambient temperature is -15F (as if you were standing outside IF there was no wind), and the 'feels like' is the windchill, meaning at that if you were standing outside at that current time with that current wind speed of 24 km/hr it would then feel like -38. Hope this clears some things up. If not, please feel free to drop me a line and come up here for a visit.

Cool tropical breezes. Makes me want a drink with an umbrella sticking out of it. Don't forget to water the orchids.

Ok, I can see that, but not likely to experience it. I guess my question is, why do we (Aussies) bother stating it when the weather is warm? I mean, if the minimum temperature here is say, 3º C, is it really worth worrying about? Hey, yesterday here it was 38º C, but it felt like 42. I call it "Lack of wind chill factor". Where's that wind chill when we want it?

Not good here in Philadelphia. We have some pretty wet stuff about 4" but this snow packs and it's ice underneath. Driving home was a real treat especially where there were trolley tracks. I'm just glad everyone made it home safe, these storms are very threatening. The outside suburbs do a good job salting and cleaning but the city is a free for all.

Re: How's the weather?
Well, to offer some balance, 38º C yesterday, 36º C today, 36º C forecast for tomorrow, plus we have a major bushfire burning out of control not far from us, probably 20km away. Thick smoke plus main freeway and major roads closed isolating our area from Melbourne, our state capital. Luckily it's fairly calm so the fire is spreading, but not driven along by the wind. Lots of water bombers working on it. A bit worrying
The grey area is the fire, the red area is in imminent danger, the orange area is under high allert and the yellow is being impacted by smoke. The green line is the main highway to the east half of the state. All roads inside the orange area are cut with emergency vehicle access only.
What I'd do for a bit of your snow right now

Re: How's the weather?
Oh man, Rod, sorry to hear about the bushfire I hope they get it under control.
Around here we often complain about the rain in the summer but I suppose it has its benefits too, as larger wildfires are pretty rare.
I also hope the smoke is not too bad, I can only imagine... Occasionally there are considerable fires in Russia, close to our border, and we can smell the smoke and see the fanit grey smoke up high, and that’s a few hundreds kilometers away.
Anyway, let’s hope for the best. I’ll try to send some rain your way.
