Cox And Accessories Find
Hi all. Well, I think I may have been dealt a good hand. I was always watching at how others find some crazy deals, and now, to me, I have received mine. Late yesterday evening, I was online and found a for sale ad locally and responded. In the ad were a Cox TD 051, unknown Cox engine (will get to that in a minute), a set of .015 control lines, a Hot Rock control line handle, 2 large control line fuel tanks, and a set of landing gear. It was awesome as I have uses for everything, and it was in one package. But here is the downside. The night before last started to snow, then came the wind which stayed. Stormy conditions all over and highway travel NOT recommended, as well as closed highways. So I call the guy and tell him I'll take it and will pick it up. He reminded me about the conditions, but I decided to go anyways, even though I had to detour around a closed highway to get there. But I got there and back safe with my stash. Anyways, here is a picture of my well spent $10 and a 90 mile round trip in the above conditions!

Re: Cox And Accessories Find
Forgot the details about the engines. TD 051 has a cracked venturi case (?). It is cracked straight along the top from front to back on the plastic. So, I have cleaned it very well with hot soapy water and am letting it dry well. Then it will get a 99% alcohol bath, followed by a scuffing of the plastic, then repeat the bath. I will then try repairing by using JB Weld in the cracks and tapping the venturi hole. I am going to also look for very fine wire to wrap it with also. And now on to number two.
Number two engine has the following. Red rubber spinner, hub and prop stud. Silver crankcase, silver 8cc cross flow tank like the Black Widow, .049 piston, #6 cylinder, and metal backplate. So, I was originally happy that I got a black widow, but then realized it wasn't what it appeared to be. I am NOT upset by any means, but am more curious as to what it actually is, or is it a parts bin put together engine? I should also mention that both came with working high compression glowheads. And lastly, it had a muffler. So, any help in identifying the second engine, or seconding my thought of a parts engine would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cox And Accessories Find
Great find at a great price! Glad you made it back home too
Your engine might be a silver Black Widow with a muffler conversion kit. The muffler kit came with a non-SPI cylinder (I have no idea if it had a number on it) and a high-comp head. This would be my guess.
#6 cylinder is (according to wikipedia) used in a pre-96 QRC. But QRC has, or should have, a red tank and a blue aluminum spinner, and I think a brass drive plate (not sure), so if it is originally a QRC it has had a lot of parts changed.
Well, I hope both of them will run great

I'm with Kari & thinkin' QRC. The #6 cylinder, muffler & high comp head all add up.

Re: Cox And Accessories Find
That is where I was getting confused and thinking about the put together engine. The cylinder as my readings online were used on a QZ, and QRC, but some of the rest didn't add up. Thank you.

Re: Cox And Accessories Find
Oh, and by the way. Could someone tell me how the heck this muffler works? In short, how do you know where to set the black band? Or, do you adjust it while running as you see fit? Thanks again.

Re: Cox And Accessories Find
Yes, the engine could be a QZ fitted with a stunt tank. Lots of alternatives
I *think* the black sliding part is for priming, and should be closed while the engine runs.

Re: Cox And Accessories Find
I was gonna post that i thought the engine came out of a RTF R/C plane and just before i started to type i noticed the nose wheel and plastic firewall, probably where it came from....maybe a Cox Skylane?
Re: Cox And Accessories Find
Thanks. I had never thought of that. I do have the complete landing gear from a suspectable Cox plane. If it makes a difference, the wheeles are all marked Kyosho. That may be a lead. Thank you.
