2015 Ringmaster Flyathon Final Results
Attached is the 2015 Ringmaster, dates 3 & 4 October with make up dates 10 & 11 October due to bad weather. As you see, the numbers have grown since 2013. Next year I think it possible to have even a greater outcome, as others post word to their friends, acquaintances and other clubs.
Had a good telephone conversation with John Cralley this morning. We talked for about a half hour. Joey Mathison and Richard Grogan are properly mentioned as the creators of the Fly-A-Thon. I've taken my name off it, as there were a number of individuals as contributors to the promotion, data collection and dissemination, which I am only a small part of. It took a whole team of individuals to make this fly-a-thon work, to include those overseas and locally who promoted it with their fliers and their communities.
CL is normally not defined as being a drone due to its tethered nature. It requires skill to fly the complete AMA or other competition patterns. Perhaps in places where RC flight is restricted could provide an outlet for RC'ers who have been bitten by the CL bug. CL is definitely not dead by any means, as shown by these numbers, which are increasing.
Enjoy! and please note that any Ringmaster with a Cox engine from .010 and up also qualify for this event. Even variants qualify (change size, alter fuselage, make biplane, triplane, gyrocopter, canard, X-wing, jet, etc.; move wing and tail feathers around but retain same wing and tail outlines.)

Not sure of the reason for the big drop this year here Down Under. While we still scored the second highest numbers all up, it was quite a few flights lower than previous. I know it was a hot & windy weekend here in Victoria, but I notice Tasmania didn't even manage one recorded flight. Maybe the publicity was a little lacking this year. I know I had trouble finding out much about it. I joined the Brotherhood of the Ring forum but I find it really hard to find what I want over there.

Yeah, the format here is REALLY the only one that I feel like I can around in. I wish the BOTR and the .049 Collectors Group could be converted to something similar.
It's probably just my slow computer service, but sometimes this is the only site I can get to.
The Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon posts apparently are split between a designated Fly-A-Thon thread, and the General Discussion topics.

I'm not sure either, Rod. There has been considerable stormy weather activity throughout the world, which has had an influence in numbers at various places. One site with up-to-date info that is easier to get to, (Facebook membership required for posting) is https://www.facebook.com/groups/RingmasterFlyAThon/. That is probably your best info source for now.Oldenginerod wrote:Not sure of the reason for the big drop this year here Down Under. Problem with .049 Collectors is same with Vintage R/C Society, it is the new Yahoo Groups interface that Yahoo went to several years ago. It is the least user friendly one out there, making viewing threads difficult. They took a perfectly good interface and ruined it.Kim wrote:Yeah, the format here is REALLY the only one that I feel like I can around in. Mark mentioned that due to the assets stored in Yahoo, the files and photos, that it would take considerable work to migrate to another, let alone find another that was free. There is the catch.
