Ringmaster flyathon Oct 4-5th
If you have a Ringmaster, Full size to Baby RM's, fly them this weekend!
Tally your flights and email the total to flyathon2014@yahoo.com
Be sure to send your name and location.
This is an International event and all flights are tallied up and posted. Last year the flights totalled 2334. This year they are looking to top 2500.
Let's give honor to Matt Kania and fly!

Re: Ringmaster flyathon Oct 4-5th
These are my arsenal for the FlyA-Thon:
A Tiny Ringmaster constructed from foam meat trays, powered by a COX TeeDee .010 engine;
A Scratchbuilt Baby Ringmaster, with the COX Victory .049 engine;
And lastly, a STERLING Super Ringmaster S-6 kit-built model, with a terrific FOX .35 that has been massaged by our local hero- Lew Woolard!
I will be using the "Test Fuel" on the COX engines, and 5/25 home-brew fuel in the S-6 with the FOX.
It appears that we may have some difficult wind for our big weekend, but I plan to succeed-not fail!
Last year, I flew only the S-6 for the event...This time- multiples of multiples

For the Philly Fliers, it seems like every weekend is a Ringmaster Marathon. Unfortunately, since this fly a thon has been introduced several years ago, no one in our club has been able to participate. This is due to 2 contests falling in this particular weekend. I will sit back once again and enjoy the pictures. I think it would be really neat to contribute, but it looks like it takes a back seat once again. Ken

Re: Ringmaster flyathon Oct 4-5th
Sorry to hear about that Ken.
We had a great day even though it was cool this AM and the wind came up in the afternoon.
I had mind blowing engine runs, which lately has been a real pain to make happen. I had a ton of fun with my old S-1. I even managed to maiden the Jr. Ring, some trimming to do with that one though. It was a nice relaxed stress free day of flying.
Here are a few photo's of the lineup.

Slinging dope all day, while trying to hold on to the Super in the 20 mph wind as I did it. A little curing and it's water bottle windshield glued in place and we should be set for tomorrow afternoon. Maybe a cowling, eventually, but for now, the Fox is gonna hang out in the open!

One is better than none!
Or....a crappy day of flying is better than a day of not flying.

Ron, did you get the shaker sorted out? I'm still gaining on my problematic engine. I meant to mention this before as I feel Dan has once again solved one of my problems. This solution is pretty amazing and it works incredibly well. This was used on my Foxberg plane. A little bit of very lightweight grease on the balls and it just took the shaking right out of this plane. You couldn't even get a setting or hold the plane without it. Ken

Yeah Ken,
I posted over on Stunthanger about the resolve. It wasn't a vibe issue though. I tried to convey that, but no one over there believed me.
You did mention about the bearings in the spinner, thanks for the picture.

Jim, my friend Dan made it. It's a one of a kind. He has made some others, considerably larger, this one fit my needs so I decided to try it. Ken

Just Squeaked In !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Watched the winds actually pick UP through the day, with the airport reporting 20 kt gusts at 5 PM...so things didn't look good. I've got to drive to bigger spots to fly the Super Ringmaster, and had it and it's little buddy loaded for the trip.
Call me a sissy, but I was not in the mood to risk smacking the sucker after the past three days of frantic work, so I figured it was another scratch for me and the Fly-a-Thon!
After sunset, the wind dropped a bit and the gusts went away, so I went for broke with the Baby Bipe. It was darker than my cameras made it look, but I actually had a big time watching the little biplane circle in the fading light.
No loops or anything much more than gentle rollercoastering...but it seemed very willing, so we'll be seeing about that.
Anyway, my three years of ALMOST participating in the International Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon are over !!!!

Re: Ringmaster flyathon Oct 4-5th
Good going Kim. The ringmaster I had hoped to fly, an Eric Rule designed, Mike Griffin built Take-Apart was unavailable since Wayne was in Virginia with his Palmetto Sharpshooters group.
This RM was dispatched to Wayne by Eric to fly, trim and evaluate as an electric. I never met anyone like Wayne, who receives so many new designs to evaluate and document. The Brickhause Fanfare was his electric trim and eval project too. Alan sent it a month before he passed away. Watt built it and Will and Wayne wlew it while I assisted in an eyes-on function watching for dips stalls and symmetry. I was honored to be a part of it. Wayne is a master trimmer and I hope I learn as much as I can from him.

Re: Ringmaster flyathon Oct 4-5th
Hi Guys
We had good weather here on Saturday and planned to have Some Ringmaster flying. Our club Barnstormers, which is a big R/C club with two C/L circles, also had a club meeting so that took an hour or two out of our flying fun, but we still managed 9 flights in total.
We had 3 x ringmasters to fly. The Baby ringmaster is mine. The other 2 is Keith's.
1 x S-1 with Fox 35, 1 x Cox Black Widow powered Baby Ringmaster, and then one electric Baby Ringmaster Bipe.
It was fun and we enjoyed the day.

I may be in "The Stupid Zone" again, but can any of you guys direct me to the final tally/page for the Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon. I'm a member over there, but kept going in circles trying to find the post on this last year's flying.
Thanks! Confused Kim

Do you know, though, if they ever did an "Album Page" collection of participants photos? Figured it's be fairly big, but was still wondering.

I don't. I usually don't visit the Ringmaster site, it's hard to find things and John seems to be heading things up on stunthangar. There's a lot of pictures on SH if you search 7th Ringmaster fly a thon.Kim wrote:duke.johnson wrote:Here's the quote from John, on the stunthangar site.Kim wrote:I may be in "The Stupid Zone" again, but can any of you guys direct me to the final tally/page for the Ringmaster Fly-a-Thon.
