Maybe you could remove the fragment with a magnet or something if it is a ferrous metal.

I doubt it would be sitting in there, probably covered in green goo or jammed.

Managed to remove the bit, I poked around carefully with a pin, and then tapped the backplate on the bench, and the second time I did it the bit dropped out! Talk about luck! Just need a new needle now.
I got the other one running, quite well too, the reed is a little battered but I reassembled it and tried anyway and it started, still needs a new reed, and the rest of the overhaul kit, but at least I now know that ONE of them runs!

Well you still got a fair deal even if only one of them runs.
I would pay 14.50 for a babe bee.

Good that you were able to remove it,,but,,if someone cranked that needle down hard enough to snap the end off (just guessing) it might have scored/swelled/scratched the inside of that jet tube with twisting metal bits,,like a mixing bowl.

Toss a new needle in there, give it a try,,see if it runs steady.

yes, that was my feeling too, but then I'm pretty sure that, given a new reed, gaskets etc. the other one will run too, it's trying but just dies off after a few seconds. In addition I got a muffler and other usable bits off the third, I'm happy enough!
