Cox Engine of The Month
I found back my F15

I found back my F15
At New Year's day, I was visiting my parents and found in the basement the remnants of my Cox Wings F15... painted in grey!! If I remember, I used Humbrol enamel. The nose is cracked.
I also found the original engine with heavy plier marks and the aluminium needle is broken. It's a slit cylinder product engine without flats on the top fin. I've got the prop, spinner and drag spring starter. I already found a replacement engine.

Re: I found back my F15
I decided to remove the paint to get the white colour back. As it is Humbrol painted on plastic I consulted modeling forums to find out what other people use to remove the paint. Oven cleaner in spray can form seemed to be the best solution. I bought a 500ml spray can which costs about a third of the price of paint stripper, and made sure it contained some caustic. The label indicated not to use the oven cleaner on varnished or painted surfaces, so that was the right product for the job. First I put a thin layer on the plane's nose to see how it would react. then I sprayed on a thicker layer. After about 10 min. already, I could scrape of the paint with my finger nail.
I made up scraper from a plastic spoon to remove the paint. Each time I had the oven cleaner soaked for about half an hour. The blue cockpit paint was harder to remove than the grey paint. Also, the paint on the wing tips where the stickers went was more difficult to remove.
Later that same day:
The fuel left a few yellowish stains on the fuse. The crack was glued with epoxy.

Yes, I didn't find the landing gear (yet). I'll make something out of 1,5mm wire for the moment. The built on the snow plane continues. Making the nose and thinking about a removable roof panel.

That's an interesting stabilator. It looks to have possibly been designed because of issues with pitching-down? It's probably a handful to fly!!
Actually.. Cox marketed it as a beginner's model..
Scale speeds of 500 mph.. at 14k rpm... hmm.. wonder how fast it would go with a Killer Bee clone running on a bladder!
Here's Duke's ad.. Do you still have that model Duke?

Did some wing decoration and made the cockpit visible again.

Hi Lieven plane is looking good. Its always nice to see something come back to looking good.I like the red detail but I think the elevator needs some triangle detail as well just my opinion looks a little plain back their!now you just need some landing gear right.cheers craig
