Cox Engine of The Month

Not a cox (?) but need help identifying
Its a corsair, not really sure what brand though. Note the engine venturi, it has a Non-reed-valve engine, with a standard glow plug. Its listed for $20, and I'm wondering if its worth it for a "flyer." Shes certainly not a hanger queen, but I would hate to wreck a hanger queen since this would be my first venture into control line.
So I really just want to know what it is.

I posted it here in the cox airplanes section since it is very similar to cox planes.

It looks like a Wen-Mac of some kind. Sorry, I'm not up on Wen-Mac planes. I searched through this thread, but didn't see it.

Maybe if you post the picture in that thread, someone could answer your question.

Turns out it is a wen-mac. Found it in a round-about way though, looking at ebay listings revealed a plane with the same engine that includes the owners manual. I saw wen mac printed on that. Bingo.
Maybe I shoulda looked a little harder before posting. Ha.

Looks like a MK2 or MK3 WenMac. It will be marked on the side of the crankcase.

Yeah, Gossie called it.
My Wen Mac Corsair packs a MKII, with a large "V" on the right side of it's case...which puts it at around 1960 according to my book.
I've tried flying mine several times, but the little beast came in on me every time (about 4 attempts). Definitely the friskyest Wen Mac I've ever tried to get going...gonna try some tip weight, and shorter lines and go again!

My Wen-Mac searching a few years back when I collected a few showed me the MK3 came out in 1957, and that model made quite good power for it's day.
The MK3 is popular in U.S. Nos Gas F/F because of the year and the power. I have one in a Top Banana and APS Miranda.

Re: Not a cox (?) but need help identifying
The cool thing about Wen-Mac engines is that since the case was cast not machined, it was easy to change or add to the name on the case, unlike Cox who took a long piece of extruded aluminum ran it thru a machine and popped out cases quickly and easily.
Wen-Mac changed the engine model often and by knowing when that change happened, you can ID a engine/plane by a year or two pretty easily.
According to Guy Eaves notes:
The Mk. II "V" series in Kim's red Wen-Mac Corsair had two versions, a long intake and short intake, both were manufactured in 1960 only.
The blue Corsair at the top of the thread is likely a Wen-Mac Mk. II (made 1955-1959) and more then likely late fifties as that's when the blue plastic with red/white/blue stripes was manufactured.
Re: Not a cox (?) but need help identifying
My brother Harry got a bright red Wen Mac 1957 Chevrolet dragster car and chrome plated F4U Corsair combination in 1966. The plane looked exactly like the blue one except for color. Yes, it was kind of on the smallish side. Then, the Wen Mac had a glow head instead of glow plug adapter head. I don't know if by then it was a company of the Testors Corporation.
I held on to his engine for many years, don't know what ever happened to it. It seemed to be an easy starting engine.

Thanks, Mark, Yes that's it alright. Then in the eyes of a 13 YO, it looked so appealing with all that chrome.
(May be that is why baby boomers are attracted to all that chrome on Harley Davidson's. )
