Does anyone have a technique for repairing bent fins on cylinders? I have some older cylinders that are otherwise in great shape that I would like to repair. Thanks, Andy

I have had moderate success using hand tools to slowly straighten them. Sometimes I will chuck them in a drill and use a piece of hardwood or similar in the grooves to straighten them as I spin the head.

Plier marks can be lessened by sanding followed by some gun blue to restore the black.

All these methods I described will make things better, but the cylinder will never be new again if you know what I mean.

I simply place the blade of a knife (sharp edge) between the fins and roll the cylinder around (be careful, not without some danger to your fingers..). It works well on the aluminum glow head fins, and a bit harder on the cylinder fins, but still helps..then some gun blue and the cylinder looks wonderful again.

Thanks. I used a thin file that happened to be the right size and slowly worked it in until the fin came straight. It isn't perfect but it looks 100% better. Once I get some blueing on it, it won't be very noticeable. Your suggestions were helpful. Thanks again. Andy
