EXCITING AFTERNOON
NO PICS SORRY ,,, I am sure ya would have love to see me dancing around like a little girl. This afternoon good weather for running some engines ,couple 049 s and that 35X fox , well the gbee was short run loosen the prop. comp. Put the wimp spring on the other old eng. that was gummed really bad down the needle set [venture]? well it still has problems. So with the Fox on my 40 yr old wooden test stand I began flipping the prop and I flipped and flipped :: well it likes a lot of gas I found out at about 6 turns on the needle### finally that bitc!! fired off and was cranking!!! I fled to the tach 14.700 was the last thing I seen before I noticed that one side of the mount was coming loose !! THATS WHEN THE FUN BEGAIN [THIS DAMN THING ALSO HAS A ALUM. SPINNER ON IT] so I am thinking pain is coming the wing nut is loosing fast my butt was moving hopping throwing the tach. got behine a old refrigerator at the shop well after I realized I had to get around back and cut / pinch off the fuel , the engine was vibrating / ready to take off/ by then and the other wing nut was loosing . I jumped around behine it and lucky needle nose was there got her cut off, after a retighten and some more flipping with not even a hit I had to give up for the afternoon , but its all in fun . ERIC..

Re: EXCITING AFTERNOON
Too bad we can't see that. The first time I ran my Fox 35 I learned fast you better have a solid mount and strong tight bolts. I thought the thing was going to drag my sawhorse across the yard. It hurt to grip the needle tight enough to turn it. Needless to say, I'm taking many strength precautions on the plane I'm building for this engine.

Keep a rag handy...
A Fox can shake things up pretty quick if it's not mounted down good and tight.

Re: EXCITING AFTERNOON
If it almost vibrated loose form the mount, you might want to check the plug for a broken filament.
Re: EXCITING AFTERNOON
speaking of plug .. the only fox plug I had was one w/idle bar, went and got an ops new right out of the pac. was dead i am sure I have some os plugs till I can get some fox plugs.[the right one] right now as Rusty said in another thread snow at 28 high today so it will have to waitandrew wrote:If it almost vibrated loose form the mount, you might want to check the plug for a broken filament.

Re: EXCITING AFTERNOON
I got a good giggle out of this and I bet just about every one here can tell a story of firing an engine where something very bad was gonna happen or did happen.....
I certainly can relate and pure dumb luck is the only reason I still have both eyes and all fingers
The real stupid thing is....for almost my entire Army career I was some sort of safety NCO or officer (rifle ranges) and Crash investigation team member (aircraft) with hundreds of hours in various safety schools
Even with that background I still do incredibly curious things (notice I did not call myself stupid)
On the other hand when my wife, children, or grand children are close; I am stupid anal and ultra safe and nervous as can be with any of the toys and hobby activities we are playing with....
The still running with scissors Fred

I learned that a 20 year old plastic spinner and a Royal .46 don't mix. Divine intervention protected my eyes. My arms, they're still tender.

Re: EXCITING AFTERNOON
Yea. It prompted a test stand redesign and inventory inspection.
The good news is that the Royal is ready to go on the airboat.

Yeah Cajun66 that looked like some excitement for sure , I ran a royal 25 from a swap meet last year the man said it was strong he was not kidding as I did not have things strapped down nearly good enough, didn't think it would to carry a board the mount was on away but boy was I wrongfredvon4 wrote:Yep got that tee shirt too......danged swap meet treasures can sure make an exciting experience some times

Um. I was hoping no one would notice that slip up as well. I have since remedied that.
