Yep, same reason you'd use a washer on anything else.
Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
Did you fly the Jumpin' Bean again today?

My dad actually has that plastic tote. We were using it as our box of shame. When ever we have something go bad it gets put in there.

You are down after the Valentine incident aren't you!
Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
Reading about this Lil Jumpin Bean has got me interested! So, I got hold of a plan, and the build is started (or at least a few parts are cut out!)
I may just steal your colourscheme too, the model looks very good in red & white.

I didnt actually build this model. It was given to me partially built from Mark Boesen. I liked the color scheme too.

You too, huh? And I thought I was the only one. I generally refer to it as my "parts" store; my wife calls it junk.
Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
Bought one of these when they first hit the market, not a small box, but a very durable one with solid hinges and locks, deep trays for tools, and a big spot up top when open for a transmitter. I added eggcrate foam for a cushion ride for the TX. Orange one on the left.

Bought one of these roll-aways when I was racing 1/8 scale offroad. Very handy as well,,and very full at the moment.

MY wife said the other day that she'd actually like to get her CAR into the garage, I mean, what a strange idea!

Have you flown it again yet? and I meant to ask when you were describing it flying in on you, what length/type of lines are you flying it on?

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
I am using 30 some feet of misc cordage. I haven't flown it again yet but I believe I have solved the issue. I wasn't balancing it in the right spot so it was massively tail heavy. It also didn't have any thrust changes with the engine so I added right and down thrust.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
I've never tried Down thrust. Definitely right. Down might make your loops dangerously wide. The Bean does nice tight loops.
The nylon clip-on engine mount gives you some Right, if you notice the inboard screw bosses are taller than the outboard ones. I add one washer to each inboard mounting screw with that mount.
Here's mine. I don't flt with a 3 blade prop though.:

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
I flew the Bean again today and I got through half a turn and nailed it into the ground. It is very touchy. I will move the control rod to the last hole in the horn. An issue I noticed is it has twice as much down as up. The wire was a little too short to make it have even throws. How can I fix this?

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
Yes it is very touchy, no worries tho, they make them every day still.
Don't tune the engine for top rpms,,let it blubber a bit for a slower flight, so you can get the hang of control inputs. It doesen't take much power to get a Bean in the air. It wont fly as long but you will get those crutial minutes of flight time to figure out what it likes.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
Always use the least sensitive hole in the horn, at least at first. Make sure your control lines are not in to outside holes in your control handle. They need to be closer together. Is the elevator neutral when the handle is neutral? If so, you can either get used to it or block the movement of the elevator. Put a protractor in line with and against the stab with the hinge in the center and tell us how many degrees of deflection you have.Godsey3.0 wrote:I flew the Bean again today and I got through half a turn and nailed it into the ground. Use a 6x3 prop for a while.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
I do not know where a protractor is right now so I will have to find one. I will attach a piece of wood to the elevator to block the stab.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
A lot of opinions differ but I like mine to do about 30 degrees up and 30 down. Any more that 35 can stall the tail. My Jumpin Bean is probably 30 in both directions, maybe a little less. Some people will swear 25 is fine, so I'm just basing my statements on my own experience.Godsey3.0 wrote:I do not know where a protractor is right now so I will have to find one. Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
It had about 45 down and 30 up. I blocked the elevator so now it has around 30 both ways

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
If I put the rod in the last hole of the horn it only gets about 20 to 25 of down.
