SO EXCITED!!!!
I got the Lil Jumpin Bean ready to go. I started the motor with a 6x4 and it bout jumped out of my hand so I am going to put a 5x3 for first flight then 6x3 for second and finally 6x4 for remaining flights. Unless anyone has any other suggestions. Thanks to Mark Boesen for the plane

I would go with the 6x3 for your first flights - the 5x3 will be much faster. The 6 just has more power to it.

Looks good and best luck with it. 5/3 should work fine. I never used 6/3 for UC.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
Bad day. It would keep flying over my head. Not over my head like when you pull up hard. It would be level and go over my head. It was a little windy so we added weights and it kept going over head then the weights would make it lean to the left real hard and snap the lines taught. It kept repeating it over and over. I had the rudder set up so it would go to right and it just kept going over head. It eventually went to high and nosedived, snapped fuse in two. Wing is fine. Try it all again tomorrow. I will get it to fly.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
My humble 2 cents.
Maybe a little right(engine)thrust might help.
I bet she'll still be pretty, even after repairs.

The 6x3 will make your loops much smaller for learning stunts. My Jumpin bean makes wider loops with the higher speed of the 5x3. Get that C/G balanced and it'll quit climbing for the heavens. My fuse has snapped about 5 times. Next time I'm going to chop it and make the stab 1.5" behind the wing. It'll do real tight loops then.

It noses over just behind the leading edge. We are you supposed to check it at?

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
If you marked it where the plans indicated, and use a square to find the points on the wingtips and stick pins in it, you can best check the balance. If that's how yours is, I don't know. With a brand new kit, I'm sure your thrust angle is good. The nylon mount makes it aim to the right. I add a washer on the two inboard screws to give mine slightly more. Were your lines staying tight?Godsey3.0 wrote:It noses over just behind the leading edge. We are you supposed to check it at?

Is yours a Brodak kit?

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
I'll go look at my plans and tell you exactly where the C/G is supposed to be. Your description sounds tail heavy. Any time a plane insists on climbing that's what it is. Yours has tiny wheels. If they aren't the originals that may be where the weight is lost because they are slightly in front of the C/G. I took my landing gear off and had to zip tie a steel washer under the crankcase.Godsey3.0 wrote:No clue. It was given to me partially built.
I'll be back in a few minutes with the measurements.

The lines would constantly go slack. From a mix of me fighting to keep it down and wind it would go over top of me. It also has a wooden mount and is a Carl Goldberg kit.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
Mine is a Brodak reproduction of a Goldberg kit and they are pretty exact in the reproductions.
The C/G is exactly 1" behind the tip of the lead edge at the root. I weighed my wheels. They weigh 10 grams not including the metal struts and the axles are about 1/2" in front of the C/G, so that's significant.
To add weight I run a zip tie between the crankcase and the fuel tank and hang a nut or washer under there tightly. Bush it with a piece of rubber like some split fuel tube or something so the vibration doesn't make the weight scratch up the engine. Experiment until you get it right. I'd bet anything that will fix it.
Did your kit have a counterweight on the outboard wingtip? I believe I read you post that that it did.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
In that reply I meant to mention your wheels are tiny compared to mine. They look like the light hollow ones on my Little Devil. I think those aren't the right wheels in your kit. That's why I weighed mine while I was checking the measurements.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
You were right. It was tail heavy. We put lead sinkers on the landing gear until it about leveled out. I will bring them with me next time i fly just in case. Also the wheels that was sent to use did not fit the axle so I used the ones from my plane with the RCBee. Thank you

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
Great. The farther forward you can mount the weight, the less you have to use. I'm sure you already knew that.
BTW Don't worry about the fuse, just superglue it and fly it. Keep some in your field kit. I've broken the nose and tail off mine and stuck it right back on and kept having fun.

Any chance you know where any plans are for a 1/2 or cl field box? I have been needing one. We have to just carry all the stuff in our arms or pockets.

Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
I use a tackle box and a Radio Flyer red wagon(appropriate name, never realized that!). But my field is within walking distance. Sometimes I have to make two trips.Godsey3.0 wrote:Any chance you know where any plans are for a 1/2 or cl field box? I have been needing one. Re: SO EXCITED!!!!
For 1/2A, I use a plastic caddy with drawer. Carries everything I need and the drawer holds smaller parts. About 10 bucks.

Hey, I have one like that. It was my old field box but I re-purposed it to hold scrap balsa and sandpaper etc.

Hardware store sell washers that fit you prop bolt. Bad idea not using one. You are way out of trim and fly on clam day. Good luck,Dan
