Cox Engine of The Month
My Holiday Turkeys !!!

My Holiday Turkeys !!!
Speaking of jump-starting little lumps of Coal/Diamonds, I decided to spend a couple hours getting one of my Auction Barn Wen Mac Kingcobras going for the up-coming New Years Day flying.
The 37 mm Cannon was removed and disarmed !
Running for the first time in....maybe ever!!!!
I ran close to 4 ounces of Glowplug Boy 24% though the MK XIII. Letting it slobber at around 11000 most of the time, I peaked it several times and it looks like it'll hold 14+ with it's M.A. 6-3. I plan to fly the plane with it's original Wen Mac Prop !
Two of the most heavily-armed...or at least generally HEAVY...1/2A Airplanes in the Skunk Works...
Two Bad Boys...ready for New Years Day !!! I may have the other silver Kingcobra ready also, if it's fix-up goes as smoothly as with this one.

The p-39 Airacobra /p-63 Kingcobra (same model, no diff) was in production for a long time, you should be able to pick up a restorable one for not a lot, a nice one will bring decent money, overall they don't bring the same money as a comparable Cox plane would.
Kim, If you can post a pic of the right side of P-39 engine we can get a date on it. Here's the P-63:

Hey Craig,
This was a bit of a fluke. By chance, my uncle spotted a note about 2 Wen Mac Model Airplanes in a listing for a local auction. This is a VERY unusual happening, at least for me.
I HAVE seen them also turn up in yards sales, but that is also getting pretty rare.
The AMA DOES have an events calendar for swap meets here in the U.S., not sure if their Canadian equivalent has one though.

Sorry Craig,
I got cats walking on my key board here and got distracted. I bought these two Aracobras for $20 total for them. There was only one other person showing some half-hearted interest, and he stopped at $5.

No, the other one...the green plane is the p-39, the Chrome one was called the p-63...identical planes, Wen-Mac marketing, lol
I'm gonna guess and say its a Mk.II or Mk. III, but would be interesting to see what version/year it is.

Sorry...here we go...
This is the engine that arrived with the Aracobra. I've since swapped it out with a better runner, but still have the one that came with it.

yep, they were real powerhouses, lol! It would be neat to mount a Tee Dee in its place!

Yeah...an even FASTER brick !! I WAS entertaining the idea of sticking a Tee Dee in my green Cobra, but may do it to one of the silver ones now.
Also, note the tank placement...guess they figured all that stuff about tank-level-spray bar-location wasn't that important. Of course if THIS Cobra went inverted, a steady running engine really WOULDN'T make much difference in the outcome !

yep, it cracks me up, looking at these planes, how they adjusted the ailerons to help with line tension...but they sold a zillion of 'em.

Yeah...they also sold a zillions inspirations. My dad smacked mine into the street on Christmas afternoon, but assembled it back to a passable toy for me to "hand-fly" around the back yard !
I spent a lot of "what if" time, imagining the thing flying up and over the houses on my block !
They DID look good !!
