Ohgoodlord no. I can see it now, an edragster wins the NHRA. They might as well quit making nitromethane. I guess we'll still have alcohol, thank goodness for that!

I'm surprised it took this long. eSuperbike racing has been going for a few years. The new electrics can smoke the gas powered superbikes. I'm curious to see how long a race the Formula-E races will be. There's not enough battery space in that McLaren to run a full formula race.

Re: oh crap, it's here.
The machine's still benefit from a gearbox... you can hear it. Electric motors though... must pull like a freight train, and probably have an rpm "governor"... but not really a redline to be concerned with. There must be huge regulation and inspection involved with electric racing cars I would imagine... Think of the speeds possible... when the only thing that's limiting the power of the motor is the traction of the drive wheels... These cars could be a LOT faster over a very short distance... never mind on the straightaways.
I can see a "wheel-driven" land-speed record being set by an electric powered vehicle (if that hasn't happened already)
Thanks for sharing Mark,
Roddie

Yes, it happened already. In 1899, Belgian Camille Jenatzy reached 100km/h for the first time in his electric motor driven "La Jamais Contente"

Haha! Human torpedo. I think the boy needs a wider wheelbase. I'd be a little wary of a gust of crosswind at 100kph. I bet he wasn't wearing that cool hat when he made his run.

No, he wasn't. I found this picture taken during the event but you don't see much on that. The engraving reveals more détails.
The record run was held on 29 april 1899 at Achères, a village just west of Paris near the river Seine. As a coincidence, I will be there tomorrow for a survey on a barge at an inland navigation shipyard. I will try to find the road where Jenatzy drove and will take some pics.

Torque is devied instantly from start-up with EP. With internal combustion it take RPM's to achieve torque.

I think it's a cool idea but should never compete with fueled side by side. I love the smell of methanol in the morning...

Re: oh crap, it's here.
I was at the flight show in Birmingham (BSA not Alabama) couple weeks back.
For some Odd reason a company named Go Cycle were showing their product.
Bottom line,- me and my 2 pals hung around their booth and track longer than
anywhere else. Electrically 'assisted' or full electric via their App and again via
their App the ability to remove the 25 kph governor, 3 speed semi auto gears.
Because we showed so much interest the guy took the governor off for us,
I reckon we were hitting 25mph down the straights but it was the speed
of the acceleration that was the most impressive.

Electric motors produce their max torque at zero revs.

Re: oh crap, it's here.
As promised, pictures of the Route Centrale at Achères where Jenatzy set his record. It's a straight road of about 3 km. 3 monuments ( start, half way and finish) remember the event. Each stone indicate distance, time and speed recorded. It was noon time, so I stopped and ate my munchies and took these pics.
If Jenatzy would have done his record run today, he would be fined for speeding.
At half distance, road works are going on. They're making a roundabout WITH speed bumps just before and after. What a stupid thing to do. They should have transformed it into a drag strip. That would have been a real tribute!
