Yeah, with our Multi-National/Cultural Membership here, I suppose we'll occasionally encounter double or triple entendre, but we all do get to know each other well enough to "get the drift" of our posts!
And...I have these from yesterday!...a mooched ride in the Embraer Phenom 100 that's based here! I was going off-shift as we dragged it out after it'd received some work on it's flap system, and just needed a loop out and around to confirm their operation!
Charlie, one of our base customers and fellow airplane squirrel, had already tagged a seat, so we parked ourselves in the back of this little kerosine-converter and had a big time hooting like kids while Bill and Clyde took us out and around the local countryside.
Happy Charlie !!!
Back Home Again...

Don't take offence - this is another "difference" between our languages "English" and "American" and the different meanings the same word can have.
Camp derives from the French slang term se camper, meaning "to pose in an exaggerated fashion". The Oxford English Dictionary gives 1909 as the first print citation of camp as ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to, characteristic of, homosexuals.
The phrase "He is camping." has two meanings. One would indicate that he is using a tent and the other would imply that he is parading in a rather effeminate fashion.
This "language" interpretation occurs many times. I may, for example, ask the venerable John Goddard if he would like a "fag". He would decline because .............. he doesn't smoke. However, I would be a little perplexed if he said "Yes, please"
This is a packet of "fags"

But again, several meanings
Fag, a British and Australian colloquialism for cigarette
Fag, a junior boy who acts or acted as servant ("fagging") to a senior boy at a British public school
Fag, or faggot (slang), an American English slur for a homosexual.

Thanks Ian. I like the differences in the languages. I knew about smoking fags. I remember driving an Englishman back to the airport and talking most of the way about different meanings to words. Like my backyard is 1/2 an acre and my patio is 12'x16'(3.6576m x 4.8768m)

One of the potentially most embarassings ones is "rubber".
Did you know that an eraser is called a rubber in Britain? A good British Mum makes sure her children go to school with a rubber in their pencil case.
A British gentleman politely asking a young lady in an American office if he can borrow a rubber raises a few eyebrows!

I was under the impression it was called a bungee. Are those terms interchangeable?ian1954 wrote:[q...Did you know that an eraser is called a rubber in Britain? A good British Mum makes sure her children go to school with a rubber in their pencil case....

A thought a bungee was something you used to secure items while travelling.
Hope you enjoyed your ride Kim!
