TD .010 Tie Clip
Hi all,
I'm trying to surprise my boyfriend. We've been talking about getting engaged (at the ring shopping stage) and I was thinking how unfair it is that I get something to mark the official proposal but he doesn’t.
He is a cox fan so I thought one of the Cox tie clips would be a great engagement gift for him. Unfortunately Google hasn’t helped so I’m throwing it out there if anyone has one to sell or can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

Well dang!
You must be the best fiancé on the planet. You might have a hard time getting one of these guys to sell you one. They do pop up on Ebay. Prepare to drop a few dollars. I saw one on Ebay the other day let me see if it's still there. Check back for a link in a few.

I couldn't find it. Sorry. You could always buy a .010 engine and have a jeweler make a nice tie clip for it. It wouldn't be too hard. Best of luck to you!!!

Thanks for trying. I'll keep an eye out on ebay anyway in case something shows up.

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
I went through all my latest searches and even turned on completed listings. I couldn't see it anywhere. I know I saw it though. Those things are so far out of my league that I dismissed it.
Maybe someone else here can help. Keep checking back.

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
That would probably be the least expensive way to do it. Even though the custom made one isn't 100% authentic, he'll still love it. Let us know how your search goes. Maybe one of our warm hearted members will melt when they read this and come off of one for you.Cribbs74 wrote:I couldn't find it. Sorry. Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
The original tie clip engines that Cox produced are somewhat rare. Only about 100 were made. They came in a clear plastic case mounted on a card. They did not come with a starter spring or prop.
This is the .010 tie clip I got from Dan Sitter's collection. The most expensive .010 I own. It's not for sale...

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
Thanks for the education; I'm sure there are a lot of fakes out there. If I find anything I may repost just to get a consensus on how legit it is.Jason_WI wrote:The original tie clip engines that Cox produced are somewhat rare. Only about 100 were made. Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
As an admitted collector/flyer/builder the authentic .010 Tie Clip is an investment that I choose NOT to make NOT that I can't afford it but it simply isn't worth the "tariff". I have better uses for my money.

I'm siding with Dave on this one.
Unless he's a hardcore collector,
a good engine or a gift certificate from
one of these guys, might be more useful.

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
Thanks for the suggestions I may end up going the gift voucher route if nothing shows up.
I'm chasing the tie clip mainly because it is something he wouldn't buy for himself as there is always another plane or another engine to spend the cash on.
To me it seems the equivalent to the engagement ring that I would never buy for myself but holds meaning never the less.

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
How about Cox "glow-head" cuff-links? A jeweler could surely make a set for you! Maybe even have them gold plated!
Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
That could be really cool looking really easily. A jeweler could copy the head in precious metal fairly easily.roddie wrote:How about Cox "glow-head" cuff-links? A jeweler could surely make a set for you! Maybe even have them gold plated!

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
From a purely functional poit of view, who wears a tie nowdays? Me? Very rarely like to a funeral. Bringing a "ornimental" tie clip for all to "see and admire"seems inappropriate for such a solemn occassion.
But that's just me. For those who wish to own one, GO FOR IT!

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
I wear one every Sunday
You never know what folks do for a living. My father was in business and wore a suit and tie every day for almost 40 yrs.

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
Nice thought. When my love love accepted my proposal that was presnt enough. Just a thought mind you. We were young, in love and VERY broke financially.Hellskells wrote:Hi all,

We've now been married fifty-two years and have five grandchildren.
Life is good!

That's a really neat idea thanks for the suggestion. Fits with the "man jewlery" theme and it's not something he could/would get himself.roddie wrote:How about Cox "glow-head" cuff-links? A jeweler could surely make a set for you! Maybe even have them gold plated!

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
The question now is does your boyfriend wear cuff links? If he does he must have French cuff shirts which would be neccessary to wear them.
Just a thought.

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
OK... for something he can wear all the time... how about a single 24K-gold glow-head pierced earring? While we're talking Cox "Body-Bling"... the needle-valve from a "Pee Wee" .020 through the lip or eyebrow...
I'm just trying to keep an open mind here ... especially if he's a young guy; he may have body piercings... I'm pretty used to seeing those these days. "Ear-Gauging" on the other hand, I'm not a big fan of... Once you have these LARGE holes in your earlobes, you must then "always" keep them filled while outside on a windy day... to prevent them from whistling.

And then there's the prospect of full-body tatoo if he's into that sort of thing.
The possibilities are ENDLESS!

Some people look like they were in a bass boat roll over with all the tackle stuck to their body. I don't get it.roddie wrote:OK... for something he can wear all the time... how about a single 24K-gold glow-head pierced earring? Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
There are some piercings and tattoos I find appealing, others I don't. If I were not immune compromised(all dialysis patients are considered so) and anti-coagulated, I'd probably have some minor art. But let's respect the bride-to-be and her request for information, and not start a debate in her thread.
Thanks,
Rusty
Thanks,

Re: TD .010 Tie Clip
Well you certainly are a creative bunch...
No extra body holes to make use of and the usual set is probably best left alone as far as engine parts go.
Leaning towards cuff links. Opinions on which model glow head would be the best to use are more than welcome.
