George, another flying wing

George, another flying wing
Hello,
Let me introduce my new plane : George
I found the plan on the net (but I can't find the link....)
this is a flying wing, the plan was published by Model Airplane New in January 1973. As I didn't have the wingspan, I enlarge the plan, my wingspan is about 54 cm (in fact I found a web site with the original plan, 56 cm... less than one inch).
Here George with my Baby wing (french plan from 1973 too).
Maiden flight soon,

I like it and the finish. I would be tempted to remount the engine so that the cylinder is in line with the wing. I always built combat (flying wings) that way.
That is assuming that the Bee will be happy running like that!

Hi the covering is made with japanese paper and dope. After some paint white, after red, two varnish coat, and that's done.
I presume than in combat configurtion, the cylinder and the needle are horizontal just to prevent some damage in the upside landing. My goal is too fly, no to do combat. So I fit the cylinder in this position.

Yes, this wing looks like. I wanted to build a lil satan but I found this plan, so I build it, for me and for all the member who want something a little bit different. I hope the flight will be good.

It's hard to get the pickup tube in the right C/L position with the needle on the side. I usually leave it pointed up and take my chances. I leave the fuel vents vertical too.navion34 wrote:...I presume than in combat configurtion, the cylinder and the needle are horizontal just to prevent some damage in the upside landing. Re: George, another flying wing
Today, maiden flight for George,
Engine is Ok, but the balance point is a little too far, very sensible as you can see...
Be indulgent, it's my first video my first upload...
My friend took it with his cell phone...

Haha, yeah maybe a little nose weight is in order. That's what I looked like maidening both of my baby Flite Streaks. Did it run out of fuel before you landed it?
And that's a good video, especially for your first one. Thanks for sharing it.

I put some "tail weight reducer", I think the flight will be better,
Yes the tank was empty when I landed it. Before the launch, I took 3 ml out of tank,
The video begins after some seconds (how many ?).
Thank for your comment,

How did you correct the tail heavy condition? Good job at keeping it in one piece.

I want some of this weight reducer, sounds like fantastic stuff! Where do you get it, Remy? An alternate universe?navion34 wrote:I put some "tail weight reducer", I think the flight will be better...

Re: George, another flying wing
@ Ron : I cut a plywood spacer (5 mm), and on the rear face I carved it and glued a small lead piece. The engine is a little more forward and the balance point seems to be more correct.
The actual weight is 6.06 oz.
@ Rusty : my personnal weight reducer stock is empty, bad new. So I have to use the lead solution...
The next flight will give the answer, did I done a good job ?
