Still runs after 25 years
I've had this since I was a kid. Finally found it again, cleaned it up and got it to fire up. Enjoy!

Re: Still runs after 25 years
Very nice! One of the nice things with cox engines is that they can sit for 50 years and after a little cleaning and the usual, it will start right up! One of my favorite Cox engines is a throttled Babe Bee!

Lovely and welcome to the forum ,babe bees are just so cute.
Re: Still runs after 25 years
Well it's not your typical Babe Bee. It's a combination of the best parts I had. It originally was a Babe Bee, but 25 years ago I decided to put my best parts together and this is what came of it. It has parts from parts from the 049s of a PT-19 and F-15.

How can you tell one cylinder from the next? I've noticed some have large ports and some have slots.

The ones with slits are from newer engines usually surestarts.
But there are other cylindes including bypass ports,SPI,boost channels, All have numbers.

Ok I have a few surestarts.
Since this is on the topic of Cox engines with your permission I will move it into the off topic section.

So far, the plan is to install it in the black/yellow Daddy-O that my buddy built and I have now, converting it from electric to the 049
The Taylorcraft is mine as well.

Re: Still runs after 25 years
usually, there is a number somewhere under the exhaust port.CLSSY56 wrote:How can you tell one cylinder from the next? I've noticed some have large ports and some have slots.
for an example, early babe bees and golden bees used #2 cylinders which had open (non slit) exhausts, and thin walls.
also, they like to vary by the number of injection/overflow flutes, the babe bees have a single one, the black widows
have two big ones, and the TDs and Venoms have an additional "boost" port, which goes up higher than the normal ones
on each side. oh boy...shall i post some pictures for ya?

Re: Still runs after 25 years
That would be good in a reference section. I'll have to see what I have when I get home.

I bought and flew one of the plastic F-15's,, it's day was short lived though. Brought the plane home and broke in the motor and then decided it was flight time. Fueled it up and made a good maiden flight. Went for another flight and about 1/2 way thru the tank I decided to do some low lever passes crouching down and flying about 1' off the ground. In runs the neihbors big dumb lab dog. the lines made contact with the dog at about 1/2 length and snatched the D handle right out of my hand. The dog and I stood there dumbfounded watching the plane make tighter an tighter loops as the lines shortened with each pass as they wound him up,,head flipping around watching the plane,,quicker and quicker now, until the plane bit into his backside and he yelped out. I guess he decided he was being attacked by some meat eating, ravenous bird of prey because by the time I got to the plane all I seen was fast flashing teeth and gums and grey plastic flying off. plane was junked and dog was out of breath.
Total time from LHS shelf to dog toy was about 3 hrs.

Take off your glow head and look at the filament once!
Tell me what you see.

That's funny. I remember being so disappointed on how the F-15 flew.

I noticed you have a grove cut into the top of your glow head, meaning you have a "W" filament glow head!
Re: Still runs after 25 years
I don't see what your seeing but I'll take some more pics and see if the cylinder has a number. To me the glowplug looks like any other one I had.

No intstead of a coil filament yours will have a "W" shaped one unless this is yet another glowhead style we have yet to see.
Re: Still runs after 25 years
Huh, well it has that cut grove in the top (unless that is just a scratch or mark) that you see mostly on W filament heads. I have only seen one other picture of a coil filament head with the grove. I guess you have one too.
