Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?

Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?
Looks like we need a new source for the stuff, now that our old friend Glowplugboy is gone. I can't find any by searching Google or eBay. There is 10% and maybe 15% nitro with just castor, but no 25% or even 20%. Like I said in the other thread, pure 20% castor is the best protection for the small 1/2A engines against damage from an accidental lean run. Especially the Coxes.
I looked at the Fuels from Bernie's list, Odonnell is a mix. Byron has 25/16 pure castor, but it was unclear how to order it. No stores near me in their dealer finder have it, just buggy fuel. I might get on the phone with them tomorrow and see what the deal is.

How was Mike able to do it? He was doing it at home I think. Do you need a license to work with nitro?

Re: Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?
Some sort of hazardous material permit, I'm sure, but don't really know. Mike was apparently in some sort of industrial occupation, so he might have had convenient sources and equipment. I'm sure the fire marshal wouldn't be too keen on it. He must have had a pretty nice setup because he always had it on my doorstep two days after I ordered it. He told me he would mix any blend you wanted at no extra charge if you bought four gallons. I wanted to get some with 25% nitro/20% castor so I didn't have to spike it and lower the nitro %.
Hopefully Byron will come through. 16% castor, so we'll have to juice it, but that's fine with me. GPB ran really smooth and steady compared to everything else I ever tried.

Ditto
or do what i do................i use Sig's 10% all castor (25%)
and use this formulator for adding the proper amount of nitro and oil to get what i want........in this case i run 30% nitro and 20% oil.
http://www.nitrorc.com/fuelws/allmix.asp
i have been buying my Nitro from Torco.
only ingredient i can't get my hands on is propylene oxide for the extra pop in my 50% nitro blend.

I don't know about other hobby shops. But mine stocks nitro, castor and everything for mixing your own. I don't think you need any permits to mix for yourself.

My Coxes seems to like SIG 25 or 35 nitro fuel which has a mix of Klotz and castor lube.

Re: Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?
We have heard good feedback from:
http://www.ritchsbrew.com/ I believe he will mix any fuel you want.
Aerodyne Fuel
Sig Fuel
The 'new' Hobbico fuel (labeled as Cox) is basically the same 1/2A fuel Hobbico has been selling for some time re-labeled under the Cox brand, which is obviously more recognizable. I would still recommend the Sig Champion fuel over this one.

Re: Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?
If I don't find any pure castor fuel, this stuff would do. My LHS comes up in their dealer finder, so at least I could get it without paying Sig $10 bucks shipping for basically the same mix. That's a plus.WingingIt74 wrote:http://www.coxmodels.com/fuel/index.html
"Pure Castor" is the operative term here. Maybe I'm making too much of it. Appreciate the replies.

Rusty:
Nonetheless the QUANTITY offered has risen from 1/2 PINT to one QUART for the same $8.99 price.
Excuse me but most of us could "pee" a half-pint with no problem.

Matt, I believe you are right. I've used this fuel before and it was fine. The cost for a 1/2 pint was the reason why I stopped using it.
1/2 pint of Hobbico Super 1/2A 25% Nitro Fuel.
FEATURES: Designed for 1/2A category of model airplane engines, and Cox model
airplane engines, as well as boat and car engines
Special Klotz oil formulation helps lubricate and cool engine
components
25% nitro offers benefits such as more RPM, better throttle response,
smoother idle, and reduced needle valve sensitivity compared to
15% nitro fuel
18% lubrication content
Re: Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?
Since I have nearly a quart of SIG 25 in my "stash" I'll let you fellows do the experimentation.
Be sure to report back on what you discover.

Travis,
Yes, cost per unit is high.
For those who wanted a pure castor mix Randy Ritch from http://www.ritchsbrew.com/ should be able to make it for you.

Re: Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?
The re-labeled Cox fuel is still $8.99 but now you are getting a pint, that price seams fair and will probably be in most LHSs.

Sig CHAMPION "25"
Sig
25% Nitromethane
20% Lubricating Oils
(1/2 Castor, 1/2 Klotz)
For high performance 2-stroke engines. The next step up from CHAMPION "15", this high performance fuel provides more horsepower for specialized contest use. Also excellent for use in very small .010-.049 glow engines, which require a hotter fuel to start and run properly.

I have been using champion 25 for 4 years now, and it performs really well. I have gotten 20K+ on a #1 cylinder using a surestart backplate and SS reed. Cost is reasonable, and quality is high. I would recommend it. Andy

Fox Dukes fuel or Missile Mist?

I have not bought any recently but years ago this was good stuff. Not hard to up the castor content a few percent
I buy Sig brand Pure castor oil
A source for nitro is Torco on E-bay

I been using Cool Power from Tower 30%N 12%O all castor. 12$ Add three oz castor,
N- 27.42%
O- 19.54%
M- 53.02%
I lost two hundredths of one percent in the black hole of math somewhere.
It runs well for me

Re: Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?
I also figured what cost would be if I got nitro and methanol from Torco,
30% N 20%O
1 gal nitro 51$
1 gal castor 62$
2 gal meth 56$
That will make about 13 Qts with some left over oil and meth at about 13$ Qt. unless I did my ciphering and figuren wrong.
But I can't use 13 Qts

Re: Source for 25% fuel with pure castor?
Keep the fuel in the climate controlled dark basement. Fuel will keep for a long time if sealed up and kept out of the light. Nitromethane breaks down in light. Methanol and Castor break down with water and oxygen. If you go through 4 qt in a year, then 13qt is 3 years of juice.
