The rogue Traveling Propeller has finally arrived. Came home tonight to a nice surprise.
I hope to be at Mr. Rusty's house this weekend, where we will play with it.

Re: Where has the Traveling Prop Been?
Oh my god that is a relief! I was actually just thinking about what I was going to do now that it wasn't going to show up (as I thought that if it didn't come yet, its not going to...). I was deciding weather I was going to engrave a new prop or just cancel it and say it failed. If I were to engrave a new prop, was I going to send it to Matt or restart it? If I restart it, will the people who has already gotten it be willing to do it again and spend more $$ to ship it and so on. Its great that it now came. Perhaps it should be tracked from now on???? If I didn't resend it to the people who has gotten the first one, the prop would not have been as special and those people would be left out. That goes the same for if I just canceled it.

Re: Where has the Traveling Prop Been?
I will definitely put tracking on it.
Upon opening it, I felt a warm excited buzz. I like the stuff under the lid.

Calm down, Jacob, get yourself a shot of... whatever it is y'all drink over there, and sit back for a while with a... smile.
As far as I know, Matt, I'll be here. I won't fly the Li'l Satan until then, so she and the RR will be safe and pretty waiting for the wonder woodie!
Ha! Wonder woodie... I kill me!
Here's a song to make you laugh and feel better.

Re: Where has the Traveling Prop Been?
Matt, it's supposed to be in the low 100s this weekend. Sometime Saturday will be best. The hot wind kicks up more as the day goes on, so if y'all want to come play, the earlier the better. Note: early on a Saturday means within an hour or so of Noon. Sundays are undependable, as you never know what might be going on at the church, and I am careful not to irritate anyone over there.
Hopefully it will be calm for safe flying. I do not intend to be the one that busts the Wonder Woodie.
Rusty

Re: Where has the Traveling Prop Been?
Great, hopefully we can beat the temperature. http://www.weather.com/weather/tomorrow/29209
I will have ready to fly: The Li'l Satan for the Traveling Prop, the Baby Flite Streak, and the Stuntman23. And hopefully, if I can get some gluing done tonight, the PT-19, and the Blackhawk Kom Bat. I'll have a full charge and empty card in the camera.
The RR1 only has one head shim. I think I'll add one since it's going to be so hot, and because of the longer 6" prop. Gotta put my cool new aluminum carb on the Stuntman this afternoon.

Re: Where has the Traveling Prop Been?
The Traveling Prop Day was a WILD success. It'll take me a while to tell about it, there are pictures to upload and video to assemble so I'll get back and write a story about it when I get the files from Matt's Dad, David. All of the pictures except the prop in the box and signature card are on his camera. The card wouldn't read on my computer, nor would it work when he put it back into his camera. Hopefully it can be fully recovered. I do have the flight video on mine, and a video of it running on Matt's Medallion in the shop, so I'll post those.
I practice flew the Li'l Satan with a plastic 6" prop to get a feel for what that would fly like, then flew it with the TP. The RR1 spun up faster with the Wonder Woody than with the plastic prop. I weighed them before we started and the Woody was considerably lighter. So Matt's Dad, David, took pictures of it on the plane and Matt and me holding it at the field. He videoed us fooling with it and cranking and generally messing around. He videoed as I took off and flew it. I flew a couple of laps and pulled a loop or two and a single, but nice figure 8(it's so obscured by the trees, I'll try to brighten it up some). I was so concerned about not breaking it I did not take any risks. I think I did 3 or four loops and flew flat until it ran out of gas. Darn thing runs a long time with a 6" prop on it. But I made a nice soft landing, and that was the flight of the Traveling prop in Columbia, South Carolina.
I'll make an illustrated Traveling Prop documentary when I get David's files.
I'll be sorely disappointed if we lose all the pics and vids on David's card. But he's a computer dude, so he can figure it out.
Plus I want to watch and re-live my Baby Flite Streak flight. It was fine. I feel like I've just flown my first real control line plane. I did all sorts of cool stuff that I have never had a plane be able to do with such brazen authority. All of which I'll write up in the appropriate thread.

Re: Where has the Traveling Prop Been?
I forgot to tell you about Matt flying the Li'l Satan. He had only flown a C/L trainer once at a show and said he did pretty well with that. So I asked him if wanted to try mine. I put the regular 5.5" prop back on it. I figured limp lines would be worse than speed. The RR1 spooled up to it's happy place, a throatier roar than a reedie, and Matt pulled it out of the stooge. Not enough up and a short trip to the grass. So next time, he pulled some up and it leapt out of the stooge and did a 1 foot wide full inside loop, landing next to the stooge. So maybe hand launching would be better. I held it over my head and he gave me the thumbs up. I let go and from a standing stop...as I recall,he did a wingover and leveled it off on the back side of the field. The dude flew it as fast as it will go...flat as a dead still pond, not wobbling a bit, for a whole tank of fuel. That's the best beginner flight I have ever seen in my life. When the engine quit, I yelled step back and float it in. He did a flat belly landing just like you're supposed to.
Then we ran the TP on his Medallion in the shop. I do have that video, as well as David.

We did and we did. It got up to 108 today. We were out there around 10 so it was only in the low 90s.dckrsn wrote:Sounds like you guys had a ball.

Anybody know why a 2gb SD card would work fine, then just be undetectable in the computer and the camera?

Dirty contacts or moisture. Also if they are flexed too much the die can crack on the flash chip.

So the prop has to come to South Florida to escape the heat? I didn't see that one coming.

Re: Where has the Traveling Prop Been?
Yep, we had a GREAT time.
We pretty much videoed everything we did, so you guys can see it all. I used the Medallion .049 I got from Matt @Ex Models recently.
The card is working well again - all the media is safe. I'll work on getting the videos online. In the meantime, here are some pictures. Make sure your browser window is stretched out all the way so you can see the whole picture.
More to come.
