Today we were able to get some flying in as the temps were just into the 30's. I have to say, this isn't very enjoyable when the temps are this cold. NOTHING works correctly including me. All I can say is that keep the Ronsonol lighter fluid on hand. The boredom of cabin fever is setting in and my son and a few others were getting ants in their pants. Off to the field it was and it didn't end that well for our opponent. 6 matches were flown today aside from just solo flights trying to achieve a decent engine run. My son Shawn has nicknamed his plane "Iron Mike" as it has literally 6 planes it has shredded to pieces and this one today makes it 7. Iron Mike is the plane in the first pic with the yellow streamer in the background. The last pic doesn't show much aside from the blade tips shattered, but the prop split all the way to the hub from the tip. It ran the entire flight and I was most certain due to the noise it was making it was going to shred. Good stuff though and I can't wait for the warmer more seasonal temperatures. Ken

Crazy,

You can almost see the outline of the engine and prop cut into that wing. In the 70's here today Ken, but alas also very windy.

Ron, this is what happens when you get a bit rusty. Key importance here when flying two is to keep an eye on the streamer. When one stays fixed to the plane, this is what can happen. You fly right up the tailpipe. The prop actually caught the bellcrank which prevented it from cutting the entire plane in half. Surprisingly, the boom didn't get cut and this is good due to just plugging a new wing half onto the plane. Foam is cool, you either find the pieces and cob them back into the wing or just strip it off and start over. I have to get building on a few more of these. We tend to keep Phil Cartier in overtime. I must not be getting all of the pictures. There's more than one, right? I see the shattered prop tip.
