The outside loop......not a myth
Dec 24th 2012 14:16 !!!!
I actually pulled it off! The widow was running really good even though it was cold and the castor was like glue. I put a high comp head on it for a little more pep. So I gave it full down kept my arm about shoulder level and followed it through. Success!!!
The Bean was my muse today and it is finally flying like a champ. Nice strong pull, really tight loops and it actually goes where I want it to. This was a personal goal for me to get this thing to fly right. I think the leadout location was the culprit.
I only flew through two tanks as I didn't want to push my luck. Oh happy day!!!

Thanks Gents,
I am sure a simple outside loop is old news for most of you guys, it just took me forever to complete one without destroying a plane.
It's the simple things.

It's not that simple for everyone. My oldest son is still scared to use one of his better planes. I keep telling him "I'll do the outsides for him".

I didn't find it simple either. I can surely understand your son's hesitation. I usually tell myself it's only a model before I give it down elevator.....

Nice!!! In the past I've destroyed two planes attempting the outside on the maiden flight. I feel your pain and share your pride!

Re: The outside loop......not a myth
Way to go Ron, I'm proud of you. You worked and sweated it and kept trying and did it. You gave yourself a Christmas present. When I was learning to stunt with my Bean I had just as much trouble with my first inside loop, and busted my plane so many times too. I used to have a video on YouTube when I finally did my first one and you can hear me shout, "I did it!" Then my son with his cell phone camera yells, Do it again! and I pulled off a couple more.
Merry Christmas.
Rusty
Merry Christmas.

Re: The outside loop......not a myth
Thanks Guys,
Near peed my pants when I did it. I had just done a figure eight and my son came out to watch and I went right into the outside. I asked him if he saw it and he said no......he was looking elsewhere. Figures.......
He was watching me build my Ringmaster all day and He was gluing scraps together to make a plane. I wanted to tell him to wait a day as I have a NIB Li'l Wizard under the tree.

I took more than one plane into the ground before completing and outside, also. We tell him he can do it and he tells himself "It's only a model I've been working on forever". And then says "I can't do that to this model".

Congrats on the outsider Ron.
I'd have loved to seen the grin on your face.
Bet it's still there.
Merry Christmas,

Understood Duke,
I try to keep things in perspective, I can never get better unless I push the envelope. Sometimes that progression comes at the expense of my planes. My Baby clown is a good example. Thank goodness for Epoxy and clean breaks!

Re: The outside loop......not a myth
yeh, I have a full size nobler wing in the closet. Why just the wing you ask? Well, at the end of what was looking to be the best flight of my short C/L experence, I went for three consecutive outsides and one went straight into the ground. It still happens, just hopefully not as often.

Our planes all have expiration dates; some sooner, some later.

Thanks Bob, the only thing that would have made it better was if I had the intro of Pinball Wizard playing in the background.
I definitely had a supple wrist today.......

Hey, if ever there's nothing left of your Li'l Jumpin Bean but glue and splinters, I have a step by step plan for you to remake it into the most badass stunt plane ever... The extended wing, super stab, beam mount ReFried Bean!

Re: The outside loop......not a myth
Sounds good Rusty, will it feature collapseable wings like the prototype?
Just kidding, the Re-fried Bean is a mean looking bird and you did a bang up job on it. I would be honored to build one.

Ouch, I bet it stings twice as bad on a full fuse model.

It hurts no matter what model if you put in the effort and TLC of building it.cribbs74 wrote:

Congratulations on the outside loop. May there be many more successful ones.

Re: The outside loop......not a myth
I've felt your pain...many times...and it doesn't get any better.
I remember (really old geezer voice) years ago...the week before my very first Nats, I was practicing with my original design (based on the Mo'Best by Larry Cunningham) XP-51 (with a built-up profile fuselage) and decided to just do some random maneuvers (big mistake) I was just coming out of a couple outside loops admiring how well it flew when for a split second I hesitated between another outside loop or a inside....CRUNCH!!! It sounded like a bunch of dry twigs or straw!
