Cox Engine of The Month
Blue Bullet Break-In !

Blue Bullet Break-In !
Got home a little late today, but was still able to squeeze in some break-in runs on my new "Blue Bullet" !
As with "The Other 13", I used some new 25% Sig fuel and a gray 5-3 Cox propeller. The temps were in the 50's and this may be the reason I kept getting compression-bump running. I finally stuck two more gaskets on top of the three that come the engine, and got it going.
I let it run rich for a minute or so, then started short bursts to peak and back. I kept this up for almost ten minutes (I can easily refuel it in run), then got the tach on it before lost all my sunlight. The Blue Bullet, with 5 head gaskets, carried a pretty steady 17k as I let it run out the fuel.
When I get a chance to run it again, I'm going to pull a gasket at a time as it gets broken-in.

Re: Blue Bullet Break-In !
Thanks for the break-in report. I think 3 shims with that type head is my standard setup for a broken-in engine. It has some serious compression, seems like more than a Nelson or a Cox 1702.
Are those plugs and clamp-ring heads made by Merlin? I want to get a few of the three fin ones since my supply of Cox originals is getting low.

Absolutely. An engine ain't an engine unless it's turning volatiles into kinetic energy. Any other case makes it a paper weight. Or a hardhat adornment. Yeah, Kim, get a yaller hard hat and glue it to the front of it.

Don't forget the chinstrap, essential to the efficient transfer of Delta V. Just look where you want to go. Look at your feet to descend stairs, and up to ascend stairs or slow down. I can't look backwards anymore. But I can carry a cain(or a shillelagh) to drag for braking.Kim wrote:RknRusty wrote:Absolutely.
