I'll send you two of the pipe bombs for the postage cost, 6$. I like to use USPS Priority Mail because I can track and I know it gets there.

Re: Swap meet box o engines
If you haven't used those "pipe bomb" engines with a tank...they are setup for CL flying and normal orientation is for the cylinder to be pointed left/horizontal (from front). Most run well.
There are no provisions to run them without a tank...no mounting lugs.

Re: Swap meet box o engines
i have several of the "pipe bombs" now some of wich (the alloy body ones) ive had a friend her weild lugs onto them along the thrust line as in engine mounting lugs the cost was mimamal and the more i got done at same time the cheaper per engine it turned out
with good success they work gr8 ..but the fiberglass body ones i simply epoxy the crank cases to the airframe in a position alowing access for engine repairs thus far i have 3 working planes for the g/kidds to train on
i wish to express my thanks to those responsable in helping me to obtain these engines
all i need now is some testers/wen-mac wrenches and a few assated parts .. mainly the alloy head shim as itts mostly missing from these engines i would need at least 8 shims to finish outher engines
again my thanks to those involved...you have helped mot only me but at least two Kidds get into this hobbie
kind regards... gazza

It still needs some work but should have seen it before!
You need the exhaust spring with the little flag handle on it for it to be correct. Unless only the early QZ had them. Yours looks to be an early one with the large head needle valve and the tapered crankcase.

Jason: do you know anyone or anyplace i can get the adjustment spring? i have several of this type mufflers, but none of the springs. i have tried to make one out of brass material, but it is not "hard" enough to keep the shape after bending. i have never seen the springs on ebay or anywhere else separate from the muffler. happydad

re: exhaust muffler flag
MFD: i believe the "flag" is the connection to an RC servo for RC control of relative "speed".microflitedude wrote:What is a "flag"?

Re: Swap meet box o engines
The "flag" is the flat tab on the blued muffler band.
Q-Z could have come with either type, but that's a guess.

Re: Swap meet box o engines
My QZ is like the one shown and I bought it new. Some, possibly ones in cars or other difficult to reach RTFs had a little handle (or flag) sticking up for easier access. The cylinder porting is not a standard Babe Bee, it was enhanced to recover power lost by the muffler. The Tee Dee glow plug came standard on the QZ.
And of course, some spin-off variants may have come from Cox. :-)
Nice find!
