Baby Ringmaster build (Maiden flight report!)
As promised,
I started the build tonight I should have it done over the next couple days. It's a scratch build based off of Matt Kania's design. Thanks to Rolla for providing me with the plans. Anyway I cut out the fuse, rudder and stab. Wing ribs tomorrow. I gotta make 10 of em and it's painful. I have everything I need here to finish it up at the hotel hopefully I can get it home in one piece.

Almost there.....
Need to do the trailing edge and run the control rod. I noticed there is no weight in the plans for the outboard wing. You think I should add some?

Looks beautiful Ron.
As far as the tip weight, you have a
nice assortment right there on the plan.
As far as a suggestion, I got nothing .
I take it that's your new widdow. Schweet!
Judging from your exploits, I gotta get a room.

1/4 oz (From an old set of baby ringmaster plans) which is about three pennies.

Re: Baby Ringmaster build (Maiden flight report!)
I used two pennies for tip weight. Remember to offset either the firewall or the engine with washers. This will help a bunch. I forgot to and had to remove some line. Still flew well.

Be ready for it. Do not over control it. It was not too bad my first flight. I did not have to much trouble with it. I was back pedalling because of wing and no engine offset. It loops nice and looks great. The Black Widow will fly it nicely.

Re: Baby Ringmaster build (Maiden flight report!)
Ok,
I got it covered, not happy with the wing tips. They aren't hateful just not as pretty as I would have liked. I figure this model will be a stunt trainer so it may take a beating from time to time. If it was perfect it would sting more if I messed it up.
I may paint it here or I may wait until I get home. Who knows. I cannot find 3/64 piano wire anywhere around here!!!!!!

What was nice about mine is the short wire flexes very little. I have yet to have a problem with it in the air. I do not have a support or a z bend in the middle.

I found some 3/64 rod except it's brass. I think it's going to be too flimsy. I made the hole the rod goes through large enough to change to a steel one if I can ever find one.
Do you solder the lead out rings?

RE: Baby Ringmaster build
Great build from scratch !!! Can't wait to see it fly...Only thing about the thread that bothered me was seeing the inside of your hotel room.. I traveled for a living for 37 years and I'll bet I stayed in at least 500 rooms with the self same carpet, furniture, and mirror !! I think that the nightmares may return !!! Keep your valuables and toiletries locked up while you are out of the room///Of course, I don't have to tell you that...
Pretty model and I'll expect that Black Widow to make some noise and have some fun....

For 1/2A planes crimping of leadouts is all that is necessary.
If you need a control rod you might consider a Kwik link on a threaded rod from the local hobby shop. The rods are .073 diameter and you can buy them in 12" or 36" lengths.
The rod is easy bend into a "Z" and the kwik link hooks onto the control horn of the elevator.

Re: Baby Ringmaster build (Maiden flight report!)
That was a quick build. Looks great. Did you add that 1/4oz(7g) tip weight? It will definitely need it, that Black Widow will be lifting the outboard wing. I forgot to put one in my Li'l Satan and it was not a happy bird until I made a slit in the covering and epoxied a weight in there. Or you can put a reverse prop on it and run it backwards, that might work in the absence of a weight.

Good idea, I may just have to go that route. Thanks for the suggestion.
