Spotted this little guy in an old issue of American Aircraft Modeler, and figured it might be a good "exercise machine" for some of your little nitro converters! Basically just another variation on the "flat plate wing", it's got some cool Old-School tips, and could be built in one night and finished the next.
I'm not gonna build it...got a project back-log into my next life...but if you do decide to bring one to reality, you might consider enlarging it by 10% or so to "nice it up".
Also, moving the controls to the topside would make life easier on them during landing, and allow it to easily take a single wheel or full set of landing gear.
You could also cut chunks out of it and install chord-wise flat ribs for that cool see-thru look during wingovers, and then there's also the option of chopping it out of a sheet of white foam.
OK...got to look away now...I'm getting emotionally involved...and must repeat the Skunk Works Chant: "NO MORE NEW PROJECTS" !!!!

Super Simple .049 U/C Saucerer-A.A.M. 1-1970
Hi Kim, I have this plane and this is the greatest. This has been one of my favorites for years. My dad built this in 1970 and I've had it for all this time. I tried to find the article for years. He did save it but I believe we placed it inside another set of plans. This is the coolest little plane. It flies like a BI-Slob and will hang in the vertical as well. I pulled it out a few years ago to give it another try. I bolted a Black Widow on it. This put the CG too far forward.
What a great little plane and growing up with this certainly gave me a lot of memories. Everyone always wanted to see that plane fly. I have been trying to strip the ole plane as it was painted in Aero Gloss silver aluminum. After all these years acetone doesn't want to touch it. The wood selection my dad used was pretty good as the balsa is quite light. The rudder took a beating over the years and I need to doctor it with some light glass cloth.
All in all cool little plane and you really just put a smile on my face. My dad always built the unique flyers. Over the years and several moves he built a Santa sleigh with Rudolph pulling it. It was a painted so cool and it was in somewhat of a canard fashion. Rudy up front in front of the Baby Bee which had its nacelle on the front of the sleigh. I can't find this plane anywhere I look all the time in hope to find it. Ken

Cool Ken!
It's great when someone can hook back up with a long ago, cherished project. I also know and remember the Santa Sleigh...believe it was another A.A.M. plan. I haven't seen it in my current stack of moldy oldies, but have a ways to go in getting them all cataloged, and so will watch for it.
Happy Circles !

I love those old ads --- $0.49 for a standard plug, wow.

Kim, I found my saucer. In fact as I was looking through the forum for this post, I was scanning the plans. A little further down I see Frank Imbriaco. Frank is a personal friend of mine and I really cracked up seeing this. I will see Frank this week as were both going to be attending a swap meet. Unfortunately, Frank doesn't really fly combat any longer and has been bitten once again by the stunt bug. He's quite a builder and a electric control liner. He has some terrific models. Frank got me by a a few points in a contest this past May. I can't wait to see him. I will be posting pictures of the saucer as I started to strip it down for a rebuild. I hope it fairs well. I haven't witnessed it fly in a long time. Ken

That's a cool little plane. I built something similar to that at one time called the Platter using Foam Board. It was a fun little plane.

Do you still have the article and plans for this saucer. For some reason I can't see the whole thing. My oldest son wants to build a saucer. He wants to build a .40size carrier saucer, and this looks like a great way to start.
