Re: Interesting ebay C/L carrier model w/Super Tiger
Super Tigre .40 on a 36 inch wing span what appears to be a Sterling? Kit S28 Douglas A2D Skyshark Navy airplane? Says for .19 to .35 engines. (My guess, .19 glow or .35 ignition on gas.)
Way too powerful for a stunt job, no R/C throttle for C/L carrier. Plane is more suitable for an engine half its displacement of the time.
Finish looks a little rough, but back then there were few ARF's. Most built their models, and no matter how rough, were proud of them.
Part of a by-gone era.
Value would probably be for the engine.
Historical aspect: https://planehistoria.com/a2d-skyshark/

Plane never made it into production citing technical issues, however, that never stopped other projects. It was fast for a contra-rotating turbo prop plane.

Re: Interesting ebay C/L carrier model w/Super Tiger
Definitely not a carrier model as built. Like George pointed out; there's no throttle-control on the engine. There's also no "tail-hook" to catch an arresting-cable.. and the lead-outs would be much different than pictured.
The engine is missing its needle-valve.. and I don't see a glowplug in the head. Looks like maybe some expanding foam may have been shot into the exhaust-ports.
If seller would separate the engine and re-calculate the shipping charge.. it may be worth taking a gamble on the engine.. but not for $90.00... IMHO

Yea, I had misgivings about that Carrier label too, but it just screamed Carrier at me so I included it. Flaps did it, and all it realy needs is a tail hook. These things landed on a carrier deck then and still do then advance to full throttle in case of a cable malfunction. Just lay bigger sandbags.
84 year old guy passed on to the the big modeler in the sky. Years ago I would have been a buyer, today not so much. I just like the thing.
Interesting George. I did not know that. Will have to update my AD-6 file. I served in a AD-6 squadron.
The Skyshark was developed from the A-1 Skyraider, another product of the Douglas Aircraft Company and shares a common lineage, but they also represented two different approaches to military aviation during the immediate post-World War II period.
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider, originally designated AD, was a highly successful single-seat attack aircraft that first flew in 1945.
Powered by a single Wright R-3350 radial engine, the Skyraider was characterized by its large, low-mounted wings and its ability to carry a significant payload.

The Sterling kit mentioned C/L carrier or for stunt. I'd think probably a Testor's McCoy .19 Red Head, Fox .19 or K&B .19 Torpedo would have been the target engines of the day for stunt.

Re: Interesting ebay C/L carrier model w/Super Tiger
The G-21 -40 never really had a following. It didn't really live up to it's big brother the .46. The G-21-.46 dominated stunt for years and for some reason still has a following today. I couldn't afford them years back and I never really used one. The modern OS LA series were inexpensive when they were introduced and took all of the screwing around out of the picture with these old relics. I just never understood why they felt the need to use a ring on this particular engine. In my opinion, it would've been light years ahead if they chose ABC construction. Super Tiger did the same with the V case .56, the .60 used the same case and it ran stronger. I have them both but the .60 has to be one of the most user friendly engines.

Ah Ken, you make me want to buy it and take it apart.
Last ringed engine I tore down was a Cox chain saw engine with a two ringed piston. Probably did a picture show right here on the forum about it. Fun getting those rings back in. Finger nails and patience required. But, is it worth the price plus $50+ shipping..............
