Cox Crusader Stunt trainer
Not much info about this plane on this forum that I can find. I bought this a couple of months ago. It has a foam wing and is very lite weight. I was thinking about buying the Hyper Viper but this has less total wing area and the wings are swept back , not straight like the Hyper Viper. I’ll post exact weight and dimensions tonight Before I fly it I was hoping to get some info on it from the Cox community. Any takers ? Thanks. Mark Green. Pictures to follow

But notice how big the elevators are Huge compared to other Cox planes. It should be extremely maneuverable. We will see if I can do some loops with it

Re: Cox Crusader Stunt trainer
Apparently you have a rarer one there, @Greenman38633. One more familiar would be Larry Renger, who was a Cox product development engineer (don't know his official title). He posts on Stunt Hangar occasionally still. He was as far as I know, involved with those.
Cox in the product line had a Dehavilland Chipmunk Super Stunter ARTF, and your looks like it was a part of that same series. I think they had an ME-109 also.
After, they marketed a universal wing kit after, based on this series. One would build a profile balsa fuselage, of which they had a couple templates of.

By the way, nice restoration of a not oft seen Cox ARTF.

Re: Cox Crusader Stunt trainer
Hi Greenman,
That has to be very rare,
At 6.4oz it somehow has a swept hollow foam Cox wing.
Looks like a 'Crusader Jet' to me.
If it was advertised by Cox in the day,
I would have bought one.
Ask Larry Renger, before flying it.
It could be very, very, rare.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Hi Greenman,
How do the leadout lines hook up to the nicely rivet detailed all flying stab?
Do the rivets help doing loops?
Cox fans want to know.
And is the canopy a tank hatch?
That is nice first for a Cox control line plane.
You can answer after noon, today.

Have fun,
Dave

Re: Cox Crusader Stunt trainer
Elevator size doesn't correspond with maneuverability. I don't think that the plane would be maneuverable at all. It's heavy, the controls more than likely are far too fast which will cause the plane to stall and the trike gear is going to be very draggy. Cox only produced less than a handful of models that were per say maneuverable and even those were a grasp at that.

Re: Cox Crusader Stunt trainer
That's a new one on me and I would have second thoughts about flying it, big risk of a bad landing or crash with this rare example. Did that large Cox decal come with it or is it after-market? I have that exact same decal in a reproduction. It looks a lot like my Gilbert Skystreak.

Re: Cox Crusader Stunt trainer
Hello Ken Cook. Thanks for weighing in on this. As far as weight is concerned it’s only 6.4 ounces. I will fly it carefully you can be sure and I will carefully explore its flight envelope. If I can see it is sluggish in its maneuvers then I won’t try it. But if it looks like a matter of not having enough power then that’s a easy fix

Here is the fuel tank under the canopy. It appears to have a self sealing vent for inverted flight

Re: Cox Crusader Stunt trainer
Hi Greenman,
Thanks for the extra photos...
Very cool Cox product I have never seen.
This is why I like CEF here!
I doubt the 'flying stab' will need much throw.
The tank/hatch/streamlined NV is very interesting !
With 'swept wings' it looks nose heavy to me.
Where is the CG ?
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: Cox Crusader Stunt trainer
Dave. Actually it seems a little tail heavy but I’ll have to carefully figure out the CG on this one because of the swept wing. If it was a straight wing I would just balance it at 20% of the cord of the wing from the front
