Hello friend, thank you very much.
When I get this engine in my hands I will do maintenance on it. I'll check how many transfers you have.
From what the photograph says, it seems that the steel mesh is to prevent the operator from burning his fingers.
The rear plate is interesting to me since I don't have one that is white and old, I wonder how the air intake hole will compare to others today?

Hi Mauricio! I wish you "good luck" with your engine. My records indicate that it is designated as a Cox pe 191-5-mesh. The pe=product engine.. and was utilized in their RTF plastic U-Control airplanes.
Yours looks to be all original.. but as you say; you'll need to remove the cylinder or glow-head to observe the porting to know which cylinder you have. These older cylinders were higher precision; being "custom-fitted" with a piston using an air-gap fixture at the factory.
Here is a comparison of a vintage white backplate with a "Killer Bee" (red) high-performance backplate.
I have two of these "white" backplates. One is alone; (no crankcase-see below) which I've had for a LONG time..
Note; the "circlip" style reed-housing.
The other one (see below) came on a mystery engine given to me by rsv1cox (Bob V.) back in 2017.
I used that engine in my Rodd-E-Liminator tether car.
I made an air-filter to help prevent debris from entering the venturi.

Thanks Rodiee for that information!
Dear friends, I share the modification I made on this engine, I hope you enjoy the video.
The engine is great, will be waiting for a future project!
Modified:
Steel mesh was removed.
Gas escape chamber was manufactured.
Speed control air valve was installed.

¡Buen trabajo duro, Mauricio! (Good hard work, Mauricio!)
La baja velocidad del motor es muy excelente y el nivel del sonido es muy aceptable.

Very nicely made exhaust muffler Mauricio, and congrats for the low idle speed achieved.
Does this engine have SPI?

Re: What Cox .049 Cox engine is it?
Thank you very much friends! I feel very happy with this engine...giving it a little love has won me over and it works incredibly well.
I tell you then:
Andras, yes, it has SPI, I read an article by Rusty that said that for the SPI to be effective, the engine must work at high rpm and with a propeller smaller than 6 inches, so it doesn't change practically anything for me. regarding engine performance.
I took the opportunity to disassemble it to show you photos and polish the exhaust chamber that I manufactured a little, in the photos you can see the machined interior and the stepped part at the bottom, this means that it does not interfere with the rear plastic plate and transmit temperature to it, there is no contact between the muffler and the rear plate.
I wanted to make the SI engine more compact, and lower the original height of the Surestar stem, so that the air valve is lower and not protruding from the engine as if it were an external part. I was surprised by the result, it seems that now there is also a faster response when accelerating, I didn't do many tests because my neighbors sleep, hahaha, just a few jerks, tomorrow I will do more tests.
I want to make a simple model for this engine, I am excited about it, I also want it to not have an engine fairing, I want it to be completely visible, so I will see if I make a model for it...since I like to fly in lonely places, rural streets, I think I have the name "Explorer"...but it's a vague idea, I still don't know whether to make a low wing or high wing model, I'll get into that topic...here are the photos.

Wow!wow! Wow! Wow!
You're an artist, sir. I have the privilege of knowing a gentleman that is an artist building radio tx's, boards to final touches. I used to build Jeeps when I was younger and I felt they were my artistic outlet. I welded frames, roll cages, bumpers, hitches, anything else the we needed or rusted out! But, sir that was beautiful in form and quiet function! Conventional theory says that long intake tubes help build torque through air velocity. Shorter intake tubes help with throttle response (less mass of air to change the velocity) and help top end hp, at the expense of torque in the low to mid range. Who needs torque on a small high speed two stroke motor?! I could see that on a diesel swinging big ole prop at low rpm and its being slow to accelerate anyway, overcoming the flywheel effect... You, sir made an art piece with that muffler. Hat is off in respect!

Mr. Boats13 , thank you very much for your words, it is comforting to know that these artisanal works are valued. They are very exciting to do and always make you think and solve problems, which is very entertaining.
Thanks for the information on the intake pipe, I completely understand what you are saying. Thanks again!
