049 cylinder with exhaust bar
I've wondered a long time why cox put a bar across the exhaust port leaving two thin slits on some of their cylinders. I hope one of you cox engine experts can enlighten me as to what reason or purpose of this was.
I haven't found anybody that can give me an answer.
Thank you

I believe that Cox company did this to lessen the chance of fires.. which can happen following an "exhaust-prime" when starting the engine. Glow fuel burns almost invisibly.. especially in bright daylight. There were reports of users either; getting their fingers burnt.. or damage to the model.
There were previous attempts made; using various metal-mesh or "slotted-bands" wrapped around the cylinder.. but the "slits" was the final solution.
Re: 049 cylinder with exhaust bar
My Killer Bees only exhaust out the top slot, the bottom only lets some SPI in.
The top slot is the smaller of the two on that cylinder.

Re: 049 cylinder with exhaust bar
Cox dis this this to lessen the risk of burns, especially as they at the time renewed their efforts to sell to children. Simultaneously, they "detuned" the cylinders by removing SPI.
To somewhat compensate for the loss of power, Cox added two booster channels inside.
