We do it again?
With one less engine to vote on?

June 2023 Contest had 31 voters.
With 17 votes, we could use the 14 others to turn the tide!

Re: TIEBREAKER-POLL **COX-ENGINE-OF-THE-MONTH** (July 2023)
My thanks to those who chose and voted for this engine.
The autonomous design and technology to achieve flight is admirable.
In the years in which it was created, this internal combustion engine micro-helicopter, in addition to its own flight, generates the autorotation process, making landing with the engine stopped sustainable.
My admiration to all those who made the COX firm possible!!!
Thank you CEF guys!!!
I share this flight in the video, turn up the volume and have fun!

Mauricio.
Congratulations on winning. I notice that there are balance weights on a couple of the rotor arms and I wondered if these are original or are they something which you have added? What is their purpose? Is it to offset the weight of the cylinder on the opposite side?
Rod.

thank you so much!
Yes, I added the counterweights, as I was seeing the rotation of the engine and its blades, this makes that rotation more even and therefore gains performance, not only when the engine is running, but also when it stops, that Counterweight makes the autorotation more durable and therefore the landing is softer.
Now I share with you the new device that compensates for the previous weights, it is lighter and acts directly opposite the engine cylinder, perhaps it should be at the same height as the cylinder, but to do initial tests from what I could see, it seems to work good. I have to go make it fly and see how it behaves already in nature.

Re: TIEBREAKER-POLL **COX-ENGINE-OF-THE-MONTH** (July 2023)
That is interesting, Mauricio, it appears that the ready-to-fly helicopter you have, you got without engine? Then you adapted a lighter, more modern horseshoe engine with helicopter tank to this earlier one for a Cox Babe Bee engine?
It flew very nicely.
Posiblemente, ¿este helicóptero de Cox estaba difícil que encontrarlo en Argentina? Possibly, this Cox helicopter was hard to find in Argentina?
I think the earlier one came with a plate that had a counterweight mounted between engine and mount, no?
Yes, the smoother the balance, the better in flight and autorotation to ground after engine quits would be improved.
You did a very nice work in getting this model to fly well.

Hello friend!... this Cox helicopter is completely original, I bought it from a man who used it very little, only once or twice, it's like new.
Here I have the manual attached.
I look at the manual and I don't see any additional weight to compensate the rotor. There is only one extra weight "ballast" at the front of the fuselage (this by GC).
If someone has a helicopter and comes with a gyrocompensator, it would be interesting to see it.
I repeat, the helicopter I have here is completely original. Add the counterweight just to experiment and maybe improve performance.

Congratulations Mauricio,
I tip my hat to you on the win.
Your helicopter deserve the win after all the work you did to make it fly again.
I don't feel so bad coming in 2nd after a fine job you did.

Re: TIEBREAKER-POLL **COX-ENGINE-OF-THE-MONTH** (July 2023)
Mauricio, esta es muy interesante. That is very interesting. Out of curiosity, I looked into Jacob's manuals section. The Apache helicopter engine is mounted a little different.
The engine being mounted slightly off center appears that by doing so, compensates with better centering of the engine without a counterbalance. Although it places the engine prop slightly off center, may not be a problem because the main rotor rotates at a slower rotational speed.
I cannot imagine that Leroy Cox would make a helicopter without proper balancing. The reason why I asked is that perhaps after Mr. Cox sold his company, toward the end, they were made cost cutting moves by eliminating any form of counterbalancing?
Even in the early balsa designs, which used the same power arrangement, the designers always incorporated a counterbalance.
I just thought it interesting that your helicopter uses an earlier mount for a tank engine, and the holes for the horseshoe engine, perhaps the company that marketed Cox in South America did the modifications?

Congratulations Mauricio!!! Beautiful engine and helicopter…. I know with your mechanical intuition and skills you will get it balanced perfectly…. Please share more videos when you take it to fly!
