Cleaning a TD Jewel Case
I was given a plastic (acrylic?) display case by Kim a while back. (thanks!) It is a little yellowed, and pretty buffed up. I was wondering if there was any way to improve it.

Matt,
Yes and no, they make a product called scratch remover "Kit" brand comes in a smallish yellow plastic bottle. Easily found at auto parts stores. Costs less then $5. It's safe for plastic and with a little elbow grease will remove the swirl marks and fine scratches. The yellowing is a process of aging and is internal so more than likely will not rub off.
I use it to remove small scratches and haze from auto headlight lenses and motorcycle tail light lenses. It makes them look brand new again. I have used it on plastic model canopies as well.

Dude:
Plastic's appearance may be improved by using plastic polish which I once used on my Mustang convertible's rear window. It's found in auto parts stores.

Re: Cleaning a TD Jewel Case
usually the yellowing is from cigerette smoke or too much UV .....not always due to simple age
OTPH many clear plastics once yellowed are permenantly that way
a pricey solution may be a "micro mesh kit". many hobby stores carry this kit. Designed for the military plexiglass (polycarbonate window) market it includes cleaners, cutting/polishing solutions, and progressivly finer and finer mesh sand papers ...really!! Down to 6000, 8000, and I think even 12,000 grit papers
My LHS has the small kit for $24
