Why do I find it so funny...

Re: Why do I find it so funny...
Well my other hobbies include airsoft an paintball (what I did today) and safety is top priority.
Re: Why do I find it so funny...
I "play" Airsoft with my cousin. We wear heavy duty glasses, light clothing, and 90% head protection. We do not layer, because we use handguns that are 200 to 300 FPS and shoot 6mm plastic pellets. Never had a serious injury. I think the only way you could would be getting shot in your eye at close range. (Thus the glasses)
We are always very careful, respect the guns, and unload and empty the mags when not in use.
I have also fired various BB guns a .22 rifle.

good one dude!
I have nothing in the name of "real" firearms but have a few high FPS airsoft guns.
Re: Why do I find it so funny...
Once we got older (but not much wiser) we had BB gun wars,,for long range of course and all guns were the springers, no air pump. Wearing heavy welding leathers, welding gloves. Double thick full face grinding masks and open faced moto-x helmets.. Soo fun. We would creep around ALL night long, setting up ambush points, lying in wait, going sniper up in the trees,,for the high ground.
paintball,,tish, tish,, buncha girlies!!!!. You ain't livin until you have been stung against the leathers by a silver BB at 50-75 yards. Wakes you right up!!

reminded me of a line from a song
"Clapped in the neck like Amanda in Saw 3"
Re: Why do I find it so funny...
We had a leather drop down, to cover the turkey gobbler. all vitals were protected for the most part. We were a bit dumb, but not ignorantly stupid,,and we were kids.

I hear ya there. I wonder if shooting teams are still around. That would be fun to do with my boys.
Back again when I was younger, I used my dad's R22 Ruger rifle and would split playing cards in half at roughly 100' with a scope, 35' without a scope. Either way the sight was larger then the target One out of every 27 shots I'd hit it @ 100'.

Lol,
We used to do that too. We used the 2 pump rule. That rule wasn't always followed and now I have a scar on my shoulder.
We also used to have "roman candle wars" that was some scary fun.
Fireworks and idle minds do not mix. One of my old buddies still has a misshapen nipple from the resulting burn.

Re: Why do I find it so funny...
They briefly sold something here in South Carolina called an M-80 Cannon. Like a roman candle, but the payload exploded with an extreme concussion at the end of its flight. My neighbors were having a fireworks fight and one of the guys lodged an M80 projectile in the radiator of his own 1967 Barracuda Fastback, where it exploded. It made a hole the size of a baseball clean through it. That was the same Cuda I built the 440 for. I believe I've written about it here.

We would take scaffolding poles and plug one end then put it over our shoulders and fire rockets out of it

Re: Why do I find it so funny...
When I was younger we played with lawn jarts The reason why I mention it, because I also use to go out in the middle of a field and shoot an arrow straight up to see how high it would go and to see how close it would land to me. It was one of those heavy fishing arrows too, never did loose sight of it thankfully It was cheaper then launching a model rocket
I don't think I'll tell my boys that one...

Re: Why do I find it so funny...
Jeremy and I were goofing off when we were kids and he shot me in the head (had a motorcycle helmet on) with a BB gun. Man did my ears ring... I made him put the helmet on and then it was my turn

I guess the topic changed to stupid things you did when you were a kid
Re: Why do I find it so funny...
It is funny to shoot your boys when playing and they participating. Many times I and the kids would totally tick off their mom while we secretly shot each other with rubberbands when her back was turned. The giggles were infectious and eventually SWMBO* laid down the law

Young kids getting ahold of their parents guns and shooting someone has little to do with gun safety. They just don't have the mental development to fully understand. As a parent it's your job to secure your weapons in a gun safe with locking triggers. When the time comes when you fell the child is old enough to learn and fully understand how to safely use a gun that's the time to drill safety in their heads.

Re: Why do I find it so funny...
Kind of torn on this,
I have guns, I am extremely cautious yet comfortable around them. My son who is 6 showed a little more interest than I would have liked when he saw me cleaning a rifle so we had a lengthy discussion on gun safety and I think I fully scared him enough to stay away from my gun safe. Yet he still says things like "If someone makes you angry you can just shoot him Dad" which usually results in a long discussion about the purpose of guns and gun safety.
I honestly don't know where he comes up with that stuff. He doesn't watch much television and when he does it's not violent TV.
So for him, no gun toys. I would allow him to have a toy gun but, I think his little mind might not tell the difference. Other children may have a better understanding and sure no biggie if they have some toy guns.
That's my take. I guess each parent knows their kid best!
