Re: Experimental Throttle for Tee Dee .010
Thanks George!! Appreciate the encouragement!!!
Hi Andras, I have not filed flats on the .010… yet …. The second throttle I made was for .020 with thin wall cylinder…. I used your excellent tutorial for cutting the flats and tweaked it a little …. I used .005” brass in two pieces tacked together as a guard for the second fin….I probably would not have tried something like this before I saw great examples, Thank you!!
Hi Gary, Thank you for the kind words, Appreciated!!! I think you are right about the Steam Punk look, So that’s what it we’ll call it!!! …. I guess I may have a little SP in me anyway….. I made this last year…. About .020 displacement….

Robert,
I thought you made it for the 010, but for the 020 it is equally professional, your craftmanship is amazing...For filing the flats on the top fin in fact I settled with shoving the exacto-knife blade between the 2 top fins and support the file on the blade while working on the top fin...

Hi Robert, I went and followed your thread. Awesome steam engine you made. Really impressive. You have a genuine talent for that type of Detailed, fiddly and difficult work. And the steam engine looks beutiful, just like a good steampunk engine should. Your exhaust throttle has brought a crossover between the two that looks great!

Dear Roberto, your work is wonderful, congratulations!
I know what you mean about how tedious it is, without a doubt patience is a powerful tool for these jobs.
I did a lot of jobs a while back...then a friend, after seeing what I was doing, sent me a beautiful lathe with which I can now do some things that I would never be able to do otherwise.
Seeing how you work, I think that with my lathe, you would make an entire engine, completely.
My respect!

Re: Experimental Throttle for Tee Dee .010
Gracias Mauricio!! The throttle you made for .010 is an amazing achievement!!! It took some true dedication and patience to produce something that small and accurate on a machine lathe…..I’ve thought about investing in a small lathe but not having one at the time can prompt alternatives…. I kind of enjoy exploring those too…. I have had much inspiration from yourself and others here to try and imagine what may be possible …Thank you friend

Congratulations Mauricio! Its one thing to have a lathe, but you need the skill etc. to use the lathe to create what you are trying to make. Great job on the throttle. and the skill to crceate it with the lathe.

Mauricio, nice job on that split sleeve. It is pretty hard to make something that small. You have a good friend to give you that lathe, even just to use. I can see more jobs in the future coming from your workshop.

Re: Experimental Throttle for Tee Dee .010
Did some more testing on the Steam Punk throttle today on the .020…. About 30 min total run time both on the metal tank in the video and on its 10 cc balloon tank…. I ran it a little hard and purposely over leaned it a few times to see if I could break it…. Everything stayed put and I’m very pleased with it…. You can see it leaking some at the bottom under the skirt… Bubbling some oil …. I could probably burnish it down some more but it’s idling so well I’m just gonna leave it…. We’ll call it an idle bleed without the screw …..It leans out a little toward the end of the video but I purposely did not touch the needle…. Runs smooth beginning to end with its balloon for about 5:30….. Starts like a sweetheart even without the spring, Although backwards sometimes…. Very happy with this little engine

Re: Experimental Throttle for Tee Dee .010
Great result Robert wonderful piece of engineering and Craftmanship to make it. It performs really well. I am surprised at how low a rev range it can bring the engine down to and how well it manages being 'blipped' on the throttle without a mis. full range of revs from max to idle and quick throttle movement has no missing or burping just cleanly changes revs. Fantastic throttle in all respects. You can be very justifiably proud of the Steampunk throttle.

Re: Experimental Throttle for Tee Dee .010
Mauricio is a skilled machist. He started out with an aluminum throttle ring with rectangular slots, then went to steel with a circular exhaust cutout, after a simplified steel sheet steel one with an articulated, adjustable arm for more precise throttle control.
His last one shows that one can manufacture a useful, functioning throttle if they don't have access to precision machining equipment.

Thank you very much guys for your words, I am very happy that we share all these experiences together here.
Roberto, you have done a perfect job of jewelry, which also works excellently, once again I congratulate you on the quality of your craftsmanship.
I take this opportunity to refresh my memory, remember that I made the rings with simple tools, I worked hard because many did not work, others were successful, making these rings required me a few hours, since they were really made without a lathe, only with simple tools, but the desire to achieve it made them give good results.

My friend Mario Pereyra, after seeing that thread, called me and told me, go to the bus station, I have a package for you! It was a big surprise when I found that he had sent me his lathe...he said: You are going to give him much more use than me.
And he gave it to me, I will always be very grateful to Mario... always!

Re: Experimental Throttle for Tee Dee .010
Thank you Mauricio!!! Your throttles were very inspiring to try my own…. Your first ones made on the drill press took a huge amount of patience and hand precision…. Certainly a stellar example of what can be achieved even if the traditional tools are not available ….
